ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

Anonymous
FVU on the girls and and boys side is recycled garbage. Same people in charge, most of the same coaches all mean the same underperforming teams. Sure they substracted one team so the rosters might be better but if the problems remain the best players are still going to go to NVA and Arlington.

ECNL was harsh to these clubs but maybe not harsh enough. That will happen when they pull FVU membership altogether and give it to another club. Give it 2-3 years.

It’s not just the older boys. We learned today that some of the stronger younger boys who we assumed would be playing for McLean are heading to Arlington.

This doesn’t bode well for the long term success of the club….

I've seen kids getting moved from RL to NL and after a season, able to snatch the starter spot but often than not, those kids who get moved up need time to adjust to the speed of play in the NL competition. Depend on the team/ club, speed of play between NL and RL could be significant.

I'm pretty sure and willing to bet the farm the speed of play between RL and NL isn't much different

Hate to break it to you, but you just lost the family farm.

+1.

Players can play faster (if that is the system) and decision-making is MUCH faster in NL. Are there kids that can run just as fast in RL? Sure. But they can't think, pass, and handle the ball as fast.

I'm willing to bet the other farm none of this can be verified by data or objective expert witness

Why do you think everyone wants to go D1?

Data? ECNL has something like +70% of D1 player commits in the past graduating class. GA had like 20%, next was overseas players, THEN RL and USYS. That is pretty much all the data you need.

Here is an article from 3 years ago about the players in the College Cup. ECNL has only expanded since the while also grabbing GA Clubs. I would say unless you have a top 2% all RL players nationwide, chances for a roster spot at a quality academic D1 school is very very slim.

What about GA?

Not sure about younger but the U-18 team and U-17 team will be strong. The rest maybe not so much based on how they handled tryouts.

Dumb MYS didn't even try to recruit the players without slots to the RL team...so those players are leaving the club all together for ECNL or RL teams at other clubs. Club is a mess.

Conventional wisdom of hierarchy is league-coach-club. So as between two ECNL teams, it makes sense that boys would go to the club with better coaching. Which is not FVU.

Ridiculous, coaching is much more important than league or club.

+1. The technical leadership is a mess. I understand that they got Harkes and the new guy on the boys side but the timing was too late. Good that CW is no longer TD because he did nothing for the boys but too late to help our player. We left too.

I also want to call out LW and her assistant TR—this is unacceptable you lost a McLean family to another club not because we thought our player was better than he was but because we have seen misstep after misstep this year and had enough.

I have one simple conclusion from this nightmare thread. If you all spent as much time taking your kids to training and encouraging them to have fun as you do flinging poo at each other, you wouldn't need to worry about their position on a team.

MYS' green teams will play ECRL. For the older age groups, they will only have green and white (NCSL) teams now that they no longer have teams in ECNL.

Maybe in missing something, but MYS will still have an ECNL team just like they did the last two years. Or are you referring to before the Union partnership?

What is the best way to take the club patch off my players backpack? Not going to stock up on any FVU gear, future too shaky.

No, MYS' current ECNL teams (ECNL = the national league) are currently called VA Union. VA Union teams will cease to exist after this season.

MYS has joined with BRYC and VYS for the ECNL program/teams only. The charter will be under the new club (a for-profit business) called Fairfax VA Union.

MYS will continue to have ECRL teams (ECRL = the regional league operated by ECNL).

My point is that MYS didn’t have it’s own team with only MYS players this year. Next year won’t be any different in that regard. Yes, I know VA Union is different than Fairfax VA Union but MYS will still have players in ECNL just like this year.

Virginia Union were MYS teams. They were under MYS’s management, budget and supervision of MYS Board.

FVU is an independent club. It has its own management, budget and a separate Board.

It’s completely different. This has been explained in this thread multiple times.

Same thing on the girls' side. They made no effort to keep the longtime MYS/Union girls who didn't make FVU. Just let them leave.

Wouldn't girls who didn't make FVU just join MYS ECNLR teams?
