Sometimes, though usually not, cold water gives me diarrhea. Any idea why? It's not abnormally cold- just refrigerated water with no ice. |
Of course. I come from France and have lived in different European countries, where no one drinks refrigerated water. It's very bad for the digestion. Only Americanized countries do it |
It's said that cold water slows digestion. Not sure why it would give you diarrhea, but I heard it's bad for you. However, I prefer my water ice cold only. |
You're a delicate little snowflake. That's why. Sorry.
I only drink ice cold water also, and have no poop problems. |
People with inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBS) often get this reaction to cold water. I would just avoid cold water and not worry about it. |
OP here. Actually, I've started to wonder if I have IBS. I have diarrhea a lot, sometimes several times a day, regardless of cold water or not. |
It doesn't give me diarrhea, but it does make my stomach hurt. |
I think oriental/Chinese medicine has an explanation for this. |
I get a stomach ache if I eat something when I'm cold (e.g. eating outside in a chilly weather). |
Oh honey. That's not normal. Go to a doctor and get some help. It'll get worse before it gets better,, but it could be So. Much. Better. |
Cold water is irritating to the intestines and causes them to contract. Those of us with digestive issues drink room-temperature water.
|
OP this is interesting. I am completely the opposite. Room temperature water upsets my stomach and makes me nauseous.
Don't know why though! |
Only drink warm water |
Ice water cleans me out. |
I just want to add to this thread. I am the same way....if I drink ice water...within minutes...I have diarrhea. I do also think I have IBS....because SO many things upset my stomach. But ice water is a killer to my gut. |
