Because there is a huge class divide between the girls. The friend isn’t as wealthy/privileged. The wealthy teen kind of views her friend as her pet that she brought on vacation. The friend goes along, but there are hints that she resents her. The wealthy teen is controlling. The friend is also hooking up with someone who isn’t at al wealthy (a waiter or something), which probably factors into her fear of being judged. But it’s also an escape for her from the over-the-top tone deafness of the wealthy family. I grew up blue collar with some friends who were children of white collar. They weren’t over the top wealthy at all, but I was that friend. And I remember how I felt at times, not to mention their complete lack of awareness of how other people lived. But they tend to treat people as pets. That part of the show is brilliant. I actually think the newlywed story line is too blatant. It would be better if it were more subtle. |
We just talked about that last night. Especially because the mom expected to do work on the trip. |
I must have missed the part where the friend wasn’t as rich as the other. I didn’t realize that. |
They’re sophomores in college. They said so in the first episode. |
Really? I could have sworn when they were talking to the honeymoon woman (she was in the pool and they were in lounge chairs) she asked them if they were in high school and they said yes and then asked what grade and they said juniors. I have no idea why I remember this completely wrong scenario. |
I think also the daughter is in love with her friend, and the friend is trying to hold onto the benefits that brings while also going and having fun. I love this show so much. Jennifer Coolidge is a national treasure. Armand - I am enjoying the heck out of watching him. I think Rachel is up to something devious and I can't wait to see her square off with Molly Shannon. Steve Zahn being the weepy creepy guy at the bar! It's all so perfect. |
This article sheds some light on the friendship of the girls.

Needs more scenes of Alexandra Daddario in lingerie |
I recall both which I feel established the girls as liars. They also told the mom that they were doing witchcraft when they were smoking weed and lie that they didn’t make the brother leave. |
NP. Ohhh…I assumed they were both wealthy, and the white girl was a lesbian and she was upset her friend hooked up with the waiter because she had romantic feelings for her. 😆 |
The third episode was hilarious. I chuckled through it all- the boy furious about his screens being ruined, the dad getting hammered and then slamming his fists against his chest in order to seduce his wife (??!), the scene aboard the chartered sunset boat… |
Really? I hate that I'm about to body shame but in her bikini scenes she looks like a 12 year old child. I know, I'm going to Hell. |
Love this show.
Any theories on who is dead and who is responsible? I think the hotel manager is going to lose it and kill someone. The honeymooning wife is going to leave her husband and that's why he is so mad at the airport in episode 1. |
If this is what you think a 12 year old looks like, I suggest that you reset your meter: |
From the opening scene I just assumed that it was the honeymooning wife. But now you have me wondering.... You're right, maybe it's not her. |
