Can we talk about the National Guard, when it was deployed and by whom?

Well Trump says HE called in the support so I guess that settles it. Hah

Who would support a coup? Shouldn't they be fired?

I heard that when Jane Fonda organized routine peaceful protests at the Capitol involving a handful of women, they were typically arrested within minutes of showing up.
Pretty remarkable how Trump's thugs were allowed to walk out nonchalantly!

We wouldn't know who they are until the actual coup.

Pence called in the NG for PENCE! The VP needed to be protected. It was a selfish act that just happened to be the right thing to do. Don't give him credit. Trump would have been happy for Pence to be murdered by the mob.

+1 It's not impressive or brave to call in forces to stop a hostile takeover of congress, the VP and the VP-elect.

Don’t forget this key fact. Pence was trying to save himself, not democracy. His name was literally on the flags of the rioters.

MSN is reporting that the Capitol Police refused help from the Pentagon three days before and after the breach of the Capitol.

Oh there will be!

Back to the topic ... Where the hell was National Guard leadership in all this?

Wow, WaPo just dropped this bombshell. DoD stripped DC Guard of their weapons, then head of National Guard was refusing to let DC and MD send reinforcements. They knew Congress was going to be attacked and left them naked.

Key quote from story,

“Officials said the restrictions on the D.C. Guard were put in place in part because city and Pentagon leadership didn’t want a large military presence after Trump ordered a mass military response to racial justice protests in the nation’s capital this summer, prompting a public outcry when military helicopters flew low over protesters, surveillance assets hovered above the city and residents were left with a sense that the District was being occupied or was under siege.”

Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Too many cops and guard ... too few cops and guard. Which one is it?

Is it too much to ask that law enforcement professionals use an appropriate number of personnel and an appropriate amount of force?

It’s like “they’re telling me not to eat 10,000 cal a day! When am I supposed to do - eat nothing and starve to death?”
It’s not all or nothing, PP. but you already know that.

On the first - yes Cap police horrifically underplanned.
On the second - No it was the FBI that offered not Pentagon.

That's right--Pence called to protect Pence. Trump had been throwing him under the bus all week, so he had to be afraid of what the protestors would do with his traitor ass.

...and let's not forget, they were able to construct gallows. How the hell was that allowed to occur?
