| This is a really interesting tangent. I wonder if the Duggars will become like the Mormon fundamentalists where they all have to live together in a commune in order to support the lifestyle. Like everyone else pointed out I don't know how it would work otherwise. Without education or the opportunity to work like their parents once did none would be able to afford such a lavish (yes, affording 20 children is lavish) lifestyle. The Duggars are no different than people here who buy gigantic McMansions, have servants, and expensive car. The difference is they send money having kids. |

What a shocking offense!!! The thought of any "educated, thoughtful" woman spending money on raising more than 1.3 children is utterly insane! LOL!! When you rip procreation out of the sexual act, all you're left with is sex for recreation. Women become objectified as sex objects and pregnancy is viewed as a disease. Isn't great to someone's sexual BigMac? |

I'm sorry you don't have sex for recreational purposes. I don't know what happened in your life to make you think that it objectifies women - in fact I would think sex only for the purposes of procreation would do that more. The analogy to a Big Mac isn't accurate. I Big Mac can't feel or actively participate. Sex for recreation isn't just for the pleasure of one person, the whole experience is enhanced when you want your partner to enjoy it as much as you do - and it's not hard to achieve. You have to be attentive to what your partner likes and wants. When you're both doing it, there's nothing objectifying about it. In fact, it strengthens the emotional bonds. You also seem to think that it's only the men who are initiating sex. I assure you that's not true - not just in my own experience by also my friends and numerous DCUM posts. Men would be just as "objectified" as women in that case. I'm sorry you don't have a more robust experiencewith sex. Also, I don't know anyone who views pregnancy as a disease. Not wanting to become pregant doesn't mean that you think it's a disease. I used to run marathons and ran to train for them. I don't do marathons any more but that doesn't mean that I think there's no point to running. |
