DC headed to columbia

They were accepted for a reason and will graduate no problem. Are they likely to have a below average GPA, yes they are (based on them being TO and the recently released data from ivies who have reinstated tests), but as you said yourself Bs are fine, and “below average” could be a 3.3-3.6 which a perfectly reasonable and respectable GPA. Resources at ivies are amazing. Have the kid learn about tutoring resources, office hours, etc before they go and keep encouraging them. Congratulations to your kid!

The full on endorsement of this mahem by Columbia and its professors is what sets Columbia apart.

+1. Vanderbilt's admin didn't play around.

But they don't...

This nonsense is only happening at certain schools. Best of luck, OP.

I would transfer DS out, if he attended Columbia.

I would still let my kid go.

Nope. My kid already missed 1.5 years in person during covid. Not interested in hybrid and remote courses because of these safety concerns.

I saw video on CNN of Jewish Kids having a seder in the middle of the protest yesterday. Matzah Balls and all. Good for them!

Disagree. Its NYC. People protest, people piss in public places too. Grow a thicker skin and move on.

Do you all not remember the Proud Boys and others walking around DC just a few years ago?! They were carrying guns…and waving MAGA signs (make America great like when….?). Protests that are racist and horrible are not new. They’ve been happening since the beginning of time. Please stop acting like this has never happened before or it’s Colombia-specific. Racism of all types is wrong. But this isn’t new. And it won’t be the last time. And kids still need to go to college. And protestors who violate laws need to be arrested. Period…the world keeps turning.

I imagine the original poster is not Jewish, but I would suggest anyone who is Jewish who has received a spot there to reconsider.

Are they also gong to reconsider their spots at Harvard , Yale, and MIT?

Don't forget to bring your keffiyah, tent, and bullhorn! Unless you are Jewish. Then I wouldn't go for love or money.

So long as your child isn't Jewish, I'm sure they'll be fine there. It has great departments and a real commitment to its students. If they are Jewish, just have them remove any signs of being Jewish and keep very quiet about it. Don't even have them tell their roommate. Do all that and your child will thrive there.

Keep in mind that many students move off campus to the surrounding areas after freshmen year.

Agree. Vanderbilt did it the right way. Bravo.
