- Holton and Landon cannot be lumped together as Holton is much more highly regarded.
- Visitation and Gonzaga should not be lumped together as Visitation has a reputation has being more rigorous; Gonzaga is more of a sports powerhouse. - I guess Stone Ridge and Prep are close in perceived reputation although I have heard that Prep lets in kids based upon connections/who you know. I don’t know why Stephens Agnes or whatever it’s called is on this list. It is never ever mentioned in discussions of the more to tier schools. |
I wrote that original comment. FWIW, I was born and raised in DC and still live in the city. I even went to a well-regarded private, though it wasn't one of the schools I listed. Thanks for reminding me why I'm worried about putting my kids through the same thing. The more I hear from folks like yourself, the more I understand the perspective that we need to dismantle private education entirely. |
DCUM would absolutely lump Holton with Cathedral schools/Sidwell/GDS if it were located in DC. |
There’s some pretty clear biases on this thread. Bias #1 schools within DC proper are being ranked higher by people on this thread than schools in MD and VA. Bias #2 people on this thread are routinely putting Catholic schools near the bottom. Seems like more of a popularity contest than anything to do with academics, sports etc. And frankly the Catholic schools (even the independent ones) are a MUCH better value. |
Discount doesn't always mean better. And the reason DC schools are generally regarded better is because DC public schools are, for the most part, not great. Schools in MD and VA suburbs are generally at least decent. So for those of us who live in the district, we largely prefer the DC privates and there are likely more of us applying. Sure, Bullis would probably be rated higher if it were in DC....not sure if that is a bias per se or if most people in DC just do want to drive to BFE MD daily to bring their kids to school. And yes, I know they bus...but then it just means the kids are sitting on the bus. Sending a child to a private in DC if you live in DC is just practical. |
OP, let’s talk after you have done a little more research on Bullis, Visi, and Gonzaga. |
Ignore the incoherent self-serving ramblings above.
Here is the official data-supported list for 2024: 1. BIM 2. Sidwell 3. GDS 4. Madeira 5. NCS 6. Holton 7. EHS 8. STA 9. Landon 10. Potomac 11. Maret 12. Prep 13. WIS 14. Rochambeau 15. SAAS https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-private-high-schools/m/washington-dc-metro-area/ |
Very accurate. -Sidwell alum and GDS parent |
It. P.S. Blair students use correct grammar, apparently unlike SFS. |
Private school parents and students DO NOT CARE about TJ and Blair. See, that rhymes. I love how you tried to slide them in there though. |
This is definitely not a Sidwell student. |
You are neither a Sidwell alum nor a GDS parent. I can smell the stench of BIM on you through my computer screen. |
SAES is academically superior to the Catholic Schools and Bullis. The Catholic schools are older but your average Gonzaga or SHC student doesn’t compare to a SAES student, academically. |
This was not OPs list. OP asked for us to rearrange this list. |
Stop being delusional, we know you went to Wilson. You and your false private education still can’t comprehend that this is a priv school thread! Also guess what…if it wasn’t regarded it is certainly irrelevant! |
