Did you upgrade or downgrade compared to your mom/dad?

Upgrade.

My dad was an addict. He was honestly a good person but very problematic for many years.

Because of his issues, we were stuck in the lower middle class. DH grew up upper middle class, and we've stayed there. He and my dad are both very kind, but I couldn't have lived with someone like my dad.

I am sad to report, OP, that based solely on your post, your spouse has downgraded.

My FOO is a mess in terms of they hate each other which was encouraged by parents. They had more money but spent it foolishly. I have a great marriage, fabulous kids and grandkids and I consider that an upgrade.

One from someone who thinks you can rate people in the same way you rate a car or cellphone. "I'm upgrading to a Samsung S24! It has more memory and a faster processor." "Wow, that sounds great! I'm upgrading from Steve to Bob. He's taller and has a higher salary."

HUGE upgrade. I definitely married "up".

My spouse is a total upgrade from my pos stepfather, my mother's 3rd DH. But I'm a much better human being than my mother in every way, so.

I upgraded in just about every way imaginable.

No man can compare to my dad. He was the absolute best person in every way. Very very hard shoes for any man to follow.

My husband is bright like my dad and a hood dad- he was not as good of a husband having really awful parents (alcoholic cheaters) as role models.

My dad never hurt me. Loyal and unconditional love. He was the best guy ever. Such a big heart, brilliant and hilarious. Just a good person.

My husband turned out to have vices—cheating and drinking too much at midlife.

Same, not an upgrade or downgrade. I basically married my dad. Intelligent, kind, family men, same career even. I do like Dh more and think he’s more attractive.

Comparing yourself or your spouse to others will lead to a miserable life. Be happy with who you married and stop comparing.

Both have their positives and negatives but both decent, hard working, loyal, self made family men.
