GW

Hi - I’m the previous new poster who had a bad experience at GW. I saw every doctor at the practice. Many, many doctors failed me - failed to recognize symptoms, signs, care needed and kind of left me high and dry in the aftermath. There was one doctor who followed up with my in the postpartum period - recognizing that my horrific situation had led to severe depression (which no one ever told me at the time). She has since left the practice. I was with the OBs, not midwives. Every practice is going to have a story like mine, I’m sure. Most people I know had good experiences at GW - it’s the hospital almost all doulas (which I had) recommend. I did not have a good experience and will never go back.

Really sorry to hear this. Is this a common condition or something that you think was a result of preexisting and was more complex? I do not mean to sound dismissive but I would have huge concerns if they didn’t recognize HELLP or pre-eclampsia vs. something that a hematologist or something would be more familiar with. Still, a huge failure on their end to not recommend proper care if you’d been filling out the PPD surveys and they did not recommend any help.

Both for me. I just can’t recommend them. My experience was so, so horrible. There are so many better practices and hospitals out there. I almost cried when delivering my second at Sibley because the care was so much better - attentive, respectful, etc.

Ugh…so sorry for those of you who had a terrible experience.

First baby at Sibley was lovely but uncomplicated.

Second pregnancy my Sibley doctor told me to go to GW because of multiple complications. They saved my life. Did I get a blood transfusion yes. Was there an emergency yes. But, the OBs had planned for everything in advance. I felt very cared for.

Everyone, had there own experience. I would recommend GW. I would also recommend Sibley if uncomplicated.

I just delivered at GW on Christmas. Had the best labor and delivery experience there. Pain management was amazing! This was my second vaginal delivery. Staff was absolutely wonderful. Would highly recommend. The newly renovated rooms are very nice.

Congratulations on your Christmas baby! Glad to hear you had a good L&D experience especially when it's a skeleton crew for holidays. Any OB recommendations? How was scheduling leading up to your delivery?

I can’t discuss Christmas time. However, I had my baby during Thanksgiving. I am high risk. I had no trouble seeing the high risk doctor, their NP, or my doctor. I made 2-3 appointments in advance when I was there for my visit. I found the portal to be an easy way to ask questions.
The labor and delivery nurses were amazing. The doctors and the one midwife that I met were up to date, kind and “hella amazing” when I started bleeding too much. Because of the high risk pregnancy, my DD had to go to the nicu for a few days and I felt like their team was equally great and very communicative. I caught a glimpse of the new labor rooms but didn’t have one-they are beautiful (at least from peaking in). The post delivery care was fine.
I loved Dr. Sheth, Keller and Jamshidi!
I never felt like it was a small nursing crew despite the holiday.

I saw Dr. Keller during a prior pregnancy and thought she was nice but a bit dismissive of my concern. Nothing was wrong fortunately, so she was right in the end.

Dr. Sheth only works labor and delivery, but if you're having a scheduled induction, you can try to get scheduled when she's on. That's that I did last February. I saw Dr. Jamshidi in the office through that entire pregnancy.

Drs. Gaba, Bathgate, Keller, Marko, Jamshidi, Madkour, Martinez, Sheth, Gallagher, Phillips, Cigna are all still there. Yes, there are new people there but they did not seem inexperienced. Also, the midwives are seasoned as well. This seems to be the group that takes on the high acuity cases. I switched back to GW because essentially my Sibley doc said if something went west with the pregnancy he would transfer me there…so, here I am at GW. Maybe I’ll get one of the new rooms…

I gave birth at GW in November and got to inaugurate one of the new rooms--it was SO nice and the shower is a major upgrade from the nasty showers in the other rooms.

I had one of the new OBs at my birth and another in postpartum. They were both FANTASTIC and super skilled. I needed some plastic-surgery level suturing for a complicated tear and it has healed so beautifully.

Mikkelinini and Dumas were the new OBs I saw. Big fan.

Still no sonographer (or NSTs) as of November. I had my scans done at a private MFM practice so that I wouldn't have to go in to DC (I had all my prenatals in Bethesda)

No ultrasounds done in Bethesda presently either as an update.

You’re not able to see Madkour, Sheth, or Cigna for OBGYN.

You should definitely avoid Dr. Sarah Cigna.

What practice? Maybe I'll do that if ivf is successful- had probably 8 ultrasounds last pregnancy and can't imagine going to DC for all
