Career over kids...

So people who have children at home just shouldn't run for or hold elective office? Okey dokey.

Not pp. But two very young toddlers and two teenagers like the mayor has is two very different things but nice try.

Wilson had very young kids who he first ran, and has had children at home this entire time and no one said anything.

This discussion re parenting is absurd.

Wilsons kids weren’t young when he ran for mayor. He’s been mayor since ‘19. One Child is in college, and one in high school, so they were hardly young in 2019

I think you mis-spelled "sexist".

+ 1. Not sure why PP is down playing the role as purely ceremonial. We saw the influence of the mayor when Wilson repackaged and fast tracked ZFH.

Gaskins is his handpicked replacement. Most of us knew this months ago.

The ZFH vote, Wilson’s retirement and Gaskin’s announcement were intentional and planned ages ago.

I bet PP is the same one telling us Wilson was never going for higher office and would stay mayor forever in the ZFH thread.

PPs need to stop with the sexist discussion regarding the ages of her kids.

If you want to go after her, go after her lack of experience. She had as much time on council as Silberberg when she ran and we all know how well that went. No offense to Gaskins, but I want someone with more than a couple years experience on council before they step into the office that sets the agenda. I think Wilson had at least two terms in before he ran.

And honestly this Don Beyer hand picks Justin Wilson who hand picks Alysia Gaskins feels a bit too insider for my taste.

And, the establishment’s laudatory comments about Wilson after his announcement suggests the Mayor position matters despite the structural limitations of the role.

My dislike of Wilson was not really about policy but rather temperament / poor communication. I think I disagree with Jackson on some policy and do think she is likely Silberberg lite. I don’t really have an opinion on Gaskins as a mayoral candidate.

No way Beyer picks Wilson. Huge step down. He's not going to sully his reputation like that.

Alyia is a smart, compassionate advocate for children, youth and families in Alexandria. She is responsive and knowledgeable. She has my vote.

But Trump was President.

Yes, he is. This is pretty well known.

Not a fan. I'm voting Amy Jackson.

How many times has Jackson voted with Gaskins and with Wilson since the last election?

Anonymous
There is no difference between Amy Jackson's votes and Wilson's or Gaskin's.

I'm voting for Jackson in the name of diversity. It's been awhile since we had a cisgendered white person lead this town.

Why? There is virtually no difference between the two.
