Alyia Gaskins announces run for Alexandria mayor

What I do care about is her video is a bunch of fluff and says absolutely nothing about what results she hopes to achieve. But I will guess it's the same nonsense that Wilson touted.

Here are some results I would like to see:
Road improvements - widening highly traveled corridors and fixing and maintain large pot holes on City streets.

No more discussion of bike lanes on major streets or how people will bike if there are more lanes. No, they won't. A lot of commuting goes through the City to get to highways and no one is riding their bike on those.

Parking at the metro stations - want people to take public transportation to DC? Add in a parking structure. Taking the bus to the metro adds too much time to the commute and people don't do it unless they are desperate.

Pedestrian friendly Old Town and Del Ray - need to reframe the understanding of "pedestrian friendly" - people want those locations to be like that when they get there. They might even ride bikes in that are if they could. But the reality is people still have to drive and park in these locations so again put in parking structures and then the areas become more pedestrian friendly bc people are cramming the streets trying to find parking.

Schools - build a second high school.

also, I don't know if we need to look to the City's past for guidance. The City did a lot of dumb things in the past. Better to start from now and go forward.

1) there isn't space to widen
2) please name ANY road where widening improved the flow of cars.

Because Alexandria is generally space constricted, it is imperative to have bike lanes, to encourage people who can, to ride, so it frees up space for cars for those who can't ride. You can't build your way out of being a car sewer.

Easy. All HOV lanes.

Time to give up. First, no one in Alexandria cares. Second, no one outside of Alexandria cares about Alexandria. City is a joke.

So, this is how Amy Jackson’s supporters are going to act during the mayoral primary. Not surprising.

It's all they have to go up against Gaskins. Poor Amy, is she still claiming that Realtor group endorsed her for mayor?

You can only deflect so long when your husband is a convicted FELON.

Does one need anymore than that? Dude is a scumbag of the highest order according to his convictions.

Looks like PTAC has endorsed Amy Jackson.

I do question the judgment of a woman who is married to an alcoholic/drug addict then having children with that person. Then using said children prominently in a campaign add.

They can't. Amy Jackson's supporters found a guy with the same name who has some speeding tickets. They have no idea if it's the same person.

I won't be voting for either - I'm voting for the developer guy because that will be hilarious - but this is just gross. They need to get their girl to take down her fake endorsements and then clean up her word salad website.

The Greg Gaskins with all the arrests has a birthdate of January 4th according to the Court docs. On January 4th, Alyia wished her husband a Happy Birthday on Facebook, that is open to the public. Safe to say it is the same guy.

Now, why are you running interference?

I am not sure anyone will care in this town. I’m a conservative who thinks it’s all a mess. But, a person convicted of impaired driving who then gets further in trouble for trying to overcome the vehicle lock, may not be the best politico spouse/father. And if he is sober, then maybe put him first and not embark on a political career.
