Romantic Anniversary Dinner in/around DC?

Anonymous
Looking for a romantic, cozy restaurant for our anniversary. With two kids, we need a place without a child menu where we can feel like adults, but not a place where we have to feel hip. Any recommendations? Not too pricey, but we'd like to reach beyond California Pizza Kitchen. Many thanks!
Any wineries/wine bar good recs, too?

La Chaumerie if you like French. Altiramisu for Italian. A little more expensive but Taberna del Alabaredero is very romantic. Kinkeads is an old staple, good seafood, but expensive. If you want a little cheaper DC Coast, TenPenh, and Acadiana are all good bets.

If it was me I would chose La Chaumerie, but I loooove French.

PP here, good wine bars are Veritas, Vinoteca, and Cork. All will be extremely crowded, however. We don't have enough wine bars in DC. I didn't recommend Proof b/c it is very trendy.

Restaurant Nora in Dupont Circle. Hook in Georgetown.

There is a nice wine bar near restaurant Nora, as well.

Nora has fallen off the map a bit with the reviews...check the post magazine from last sunday....best rest. are listed!

Is the priority ambiance or the meal itself? For a terrific meal, I highly recommend Central Michel Richard, but the ambiance isn't terrific. They do have a great selection of wines by the glass. For both ambiance and amazing food, I recommend Restaurant Eve's Tasting Room - had a very memorable meal there.

Old Town Alexandria has some nice restaurants that are not too pricey. Of course, I cannot think of any of their names right now. Our favorite romantic restaurant is 1789 in Georgetown, but it is pretty pricey.

Chez Francois definitely fits the bill of what you describe - it's more cozy and less "hip". DH and I love going there for special occassions.

if you want to go out to VA mountains, you could spend the day visiting wineries for tastings then finish with dinner at Ashby Inn.

I like 1789, too, and I believe they have a cheaper menu if you eat early. You could always do that and then walk around Georgetown or get a nightcap somewhere. My DH and I went to Bombay Club downtown about a month ago and it was delicious (if you like Indian). Service was also really good. In Arlington, we like Restaurant Vero. It is in a strip mall, but the inside of the restaurant is cozy and candlelit and the food is delicious. Not too pricey either.

Chez Francois is great. So is La Ferme on Brookville Road in Chevy Chase.

Our 10 year is coming up next month, but DH will be out of town. So I'm taking Grandma and the kids to the Melting Pot... (But DH will take me out to dinner when he gets back into town... I'm gonna lobby for La Ferme!)

Old Angler's Inn is one of the most beautiful and romantic places to eat in the DC metropolitan area. Its on the canal ion maryland, just outside the district. We go there for special occaisions.

Inside DC-proper, I love 1789, too. I also love Proof. We had Valentine's dinner there and it was very romantic, more so than their usual Sat night dinner. Black Salt is great but not necessarily romantic. A new little place called Et Voila on MacArthur is very romantic, small and intimate, its in the Palisades and is French-Belgian.
