Romantic Anniversary Dinner in/around DC?

I must say that Chez Francois is going down.
For certain people it may be very romantic, but not for us and some of our friends. The restaurant has the same old decoration, looks like the owner doesn't want to change anything, neither the menu.
For us, a couple that traveled overseas and has been dining at real french restaurants, the food was extremely salted. Also, the waiters are not french at all.
I don't recommend you to have dinner there, the $$$$ are not worth it.
For romanticism, I recommend Indigo Landing in Alexandria. The view is gorgeous day and night.

Forgot about 1789 as a pp mentions - great food and charming atmosphere.

Marcels if you want yummy French/Belgian food and a nice adult atmosphere. Palena in Cleveland Park is also a nice, smaller adult space.

People will probably slam me for recommending a chain, but I really do like the Melting Pot for a cozy dinner with my husband. I just like that it's so private. Chez Francois is good but when we went there for our anniversary, I swear there were like 3 tables full of business people. Did not feel cozy or romantic.

Can't vouch for these personally, but Komi and Palena get rave reviews for their food from all the DC foodie-types.

I love Le Bergerie in Old town. Small, quiet, good food (its French, but I'm not a huge French fan, and I love it nonetheless... they have a snapper recipe that is to die for). Expensive, but not take-out-a-second-mortgage expensive.

The other place that I really like in old town is called The Warehouse bar and grill. Don't let the name fool you -- its not a "bar". Its really good food with a Louisiana/cajun flair. They have good steaks, and also creole dishes like etouffe (oh god, my spelling is really in the crapper). I had a wonderful lobster omelette there for brunch last spring, it was AWESOME.

I tend to like old town, because the restaurants tend to be a bit smaller, quieter, and not quite as pricey as downtown. Also, I don't feel a need to be quite so dressed up.

DH and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner at 1789 two weeks ago. We tried to book a table at some of our other favs - CityZen, Citronelle, Komi, but couldn't get in. Someone reminded me about 1798 - I hadn't been there in years. We got a lovely table and the service was perfect. We were happy with our food, and although it wasn't as stellar as CityZen or Citronelle, the service and ambiance more than made up for it. We had a very romantic, lovely evening. I felt pampered and handled.

Sorry - 1789 not 1798!

What about La Ferme in Chevy Chase?

CityZen and Komi are my absolute favorites. Also Vidalia and Palena. Restaurant Eve. MiniBar.

We were just there and I was less than impressed. Maybe it was just an off night.

The good folks on this board pointed me and my man to Oyamel when we had a special night, and it was fabulous! It was relatively cozy, hip but not too hip, reasonably priced for a special night, and the food and margaritas were wonderful.

Not the OP but I have a question.

Can someone tell me more about La Ferme in Chevy Chase? How does it compare/contrast to 1789? I haven't been to either, but have my own anniversary coming up in a few weeks and want to schedule a nice dinner.

TIA!
