John Eastman memo to Pence

Anonymous
People should be reminded that John Eastman was the dean of Chapman Law School, a well-regarded tier 2 law school in Orange County, CA. He was a professor emeritus and forced into retirement a few days after January 6th. He was also a former clerk to Justice Luttig and then a SC clerk to Clarence Thomas.

And now? He's been disbarred. Huge fall from grace.

Judge Luttig helped create that monster.

Glad Eastman is disbarred but it took way too long.

I hope he rots in jail eventually.

He is a formerly lauded law scholar who decided to commit crimes and violate active ethics. He knew at the time he crafted several of the schemes that he proposed to former President Trump and later helped to execute, that they were not legal or ethical, but he still chose to help execute them.

For these reasons, he was disbarred. He needs to accept personal responsibility. He was solely responsible for his decisions and his own fall from grace.

This is true. But you have to wonder why so many of these people threw away their reputations and livelihoods, and for the ones in jail, freedom in service of Trump. It’s such an odd phenomenon. What did they imagine they would get?

I agree. It’s 100% clear that Trump is a liar, grifter and only cares about himself. Did these people who support his coup plan think they could control him to do what they wanted (implement the 2025 Plan, etc?). Trump doesn’t care enough about the ideology of that - he just wants to be a dictator and continue to fleece us all for more money. How do smart people decide that following him is a good idea?

Different reasons. He certainly appeals to all the straight up racists. They all have a happy home with trump.

1st pp. Of course there are different reasons. But it’s fascinating to me that people who have a lot to lose put it all on the line for Trump. They’re not stupid people but they act like zombies.

He was probably banking on Trump getting in and then being able to get pardoned. An "ends justify the means" mentality suitable for authoritarians, "it can be by any means necessary as long as I come out on top" - except he miscalculated.

Eastman wants the judge who disbarred him to allow him to keep practicing law because that’s the only way to pay his legal fees.

I mean no offense to you or anyone else where you are emotionally with this, but I think it has to be admitted at this point that there a fairly significant number of Republicans who no longer believe in democracy and haven’t for a long time. That’s not something that people are willing to understand, but once a person accepts that, the insane actions of a lot of people become clearer.

The verdict was an absolute travesty and will hopefully be overturned on appeal.

The lawfare conducted by Democrats has gotten so far out of control - we cannot have "Democracy" when we have far left judges carrying out lawfare on behalf of Democrats. THAT is what is happening here.

Verdict? Lawfare?

You need to calm down. This wasn't a criminal conviction or anything like that. All that happened is he lost his law license. No 'lawfare' at all.

If you run out of money defending yourself, then you have options. You can get a public defender. You can plea.

But you won't get to keep your license, buddy. That's not how getting disbarred works.

What part of this particular proceeding are you taking issue with?
