If you bought a fancy night guard from your dentist...

Was it worth it? I am grinding my teeth at night. Trying to decide whether to suck it up and pay $550. No dental insurance.

Look for the Doctors Night Guard, it's much cheaper and does the job.
I even considered buying a mouth gaurd from sports authority and using that. My nightgaurd from my dentist stopped fitting after my teeth shifted the tiniest bit and it was tight enough to give me headaches

Yes I bought one from my dentist. It worked really well and kept me from grinding teeth, wwhich then reduced my headaches. But now I'm on invisalign so I guess it's trash. It won't fit after I'm done invisalign...

I've tried two different types from my dentist. Neither works for me - way too uncomfortable to wear at night and actually increased my jaw pain.

I totally regret it. Never wore it and the next dentist said I didnt even need it. You can buy a cheap one just to see if you'll actually use it and then, if you feel like you will use it but need a better one, go with the prescription one.

Yes. i have a hard plastic one and use it every night. My husband has a softer plastic one and also uses it, but I would have gnashed through it by now.

Yes, on my second one and worth every penny. I couldn't ever get the doctor's night guard to work right. If you do it, bring it with you to the dentist every time you go and they'll clean it for you.

What a shame !! that piece of thing is almost 600? Only in US...

my dog got my husband's night guard and chewed on it....now I see why he got so pissed!

I did, it lasted for years. I have now learned not to grind at night. The alternative was searing jaw pain and headaches during the day. 100% worth it.

I have two from my dentist. The first one I grinded through. I highly recommend them. When I don't wear it, I feel my jaw out of whack the next day.

Yes, and I highly recommend it. The store bought ones never fit right. I can't sleep well without mine anymore.

Yes, I definitely recommend. The one I use is almost 10 years old and I've had it cleaned twice a year when I go to the dentist (I brush it with toothpaste throughout the week otherwise, as recommended by dentist). I had stopped wearing it about 3 years ago, and did not realize what a mess my jaw and tooth alignment had become as a result of grinding. My jaw was also clicking when I would open my mouth widely or chew on some foods. Awful. Wearing the mouth guard keeps my jaw feeling better and helps decrease the headaches.

My dentist didn't make the night guard I'm using now (it was made by an orthodontist), but when it wasn't fitting correctly after I had stopped using it for a few years, the dentist had me come in and they refitted it for free. It fits perfectly now.

Got it and pretty much never used it. Could not get used to it... sleeping felt like work.

How did you learn to stop grinding your teeth at night?! I have one from my dentist and if I don't use it my teeth get very sensitive.

totally worth it...if you grind then you face a risk of potentially cracking a tooth which can ultimately lead to a cavity and a root canal and crown. I use a night guard and it is worth it. I had an instance pre night guard in which night grinding caused a tooth to chip and then I needed a crown, which was $2000...
