Yep. Besides all the long-term damage it prevents, I actually feel better from using it because my jaw muscles aren't as tight. |
I think i need to get one. I grind horribly. I am now at point where I have headaches during the day plus jaw pain. Also, I have ground my back molars down a lot. |
I can't sleep without mine now. I didn't wear it for a while, but I had cracked a tooth and after having to ultimately have an implant replace it, I decided to try again. |
Yes. Mine is worth it. My dentist told me that it also helps retain the teeth like a retainer would, which is something I'm concerned about after having braces for four years as a kid.
Plus, they are just DAMN sexy. Nothing turns DH on more than me in my night guard |
I had one from my dentist, which cost me $500. It worked fine. Then I had a bunch of work done, that involved getting a crown & two partial crowns. No matter what he tried, we could no longer get the guard to fit. So I had to learn to live without out it, or shell out another $500. (Dentist had no sympathy for my predicament)
Fast forward - I moved on to a new dentist (for multiple reasons/issues with the old dentist). New dentist set me up with a new nightguard. It was horrible - made my jaw crack/pop - to this day, even though I haven't worn it in over a year now. I feel like it permanently messed up my jaw. New dentist tried adjustments and kept swearing that it "should be fine now." Sometime soon I will move on to dentist #3 and see what s/he says... I definitely continue to clench/grind and I'm sure that I should be using one. |
I went to the first dentist and got one for $850 (!!!). And that was WITH insurance. Complete scam if you ask me, and the damn thing never fit right. I kept going back and told him it was too small, but he said "that's how it's supposed to fit." Oooookay. Made my headachese WORSE because it was so tight.
I ditched the guard for a while, but the grinding / clenching got so bad I went back to another dentist. Went to pick up the guard a couple weeks ago and it was so small I literally could not get it on. What the hell? They made new impressions and I'm waiting on a new one, but I am not holding my breath. I am so depressed. |
Worth the money for me. I wake up and my jaw feels relaxed. One thing you can do - if you have access to those health accounts where you can pay with pre-tax money and if you can wait a bit, wait until it's time to set it up for the next year and include the cost of the nightguard. |
16:51 again - Forgot to mention that my dentist only had me get the expensive kind ($500) because I had a bridge. Otherwise he would have suggested I pick up a cheap one at the drug store. |
+1 Mine got so bad I could barely eat. My night guard was the best $350 I've ever spent. |
PP, do you mind sharing what dentist charged $350? Mine charged over $500 and I'm in need of a new one. |
No idea and I've been wearing it for years. |
I stopped using it when I started thinking about the consequences of sucking on plastic all night (ie, the unknown chemicals). I have no jaw pain or other issues. |
If you have no jaw or pain issues than yeah, don't really need a mouth guard. For those that do, grinding teeth can cause neck problems, headaches, etc. Most people would probably have the plastic than have to be on pain meds. |
Can someone recommend a good oral surgeon/dentist/TMJ specialist locally? Looking for Chevy Chase or DC referrals. Thanks |
You should get a retainer when you're done with invisalign that serves the same purpose. |
