How often do you color your hair (to cover grey)?

It's getting to be every 6-8 weeks for me. Such a pain! Wondering if others do the same thing.

I should do it every 5-6 weeks, but I usually let it go for several weeks longer. My husband gets pissed at me when I let my roots get too noticeable, but I hate spending the money. I am 38 and mostly gray.

I am 46. I have my hair colored every 6-7 weeks. Sometimes I wait 8 weeks, and I hate looking in the mirror.
I agree - it is expensive, and time consuming and I hate it. But I have very dark hair with about 5% white, and the white stands out and does not look good at all.

OP, what is your natural hair color? If it is darker, it is probably more upkeep.

I sure hope your DH is keeping up with his colorings. Or is he 15 years younger than you? Dude sounds like a total prick.

Every two months. Semi permanent. My husband does not support hair coloring but it makes me feel better and is better for my career.

My hair grows fast and I do it every 4 weeks - one of my few luxuries.

Every 6 weeks like clockwork. I had to go 7/8 weeks recently because of scheduling conflicts and my roots were out of control. I am 47 and blonde and it is still an issue for me.

My DH would notice if I did not get my roots done, but he gets his hair cut as often as I get mine cut and colored. He likely would not care if I chose to let my hair go grey, but since I do color he would notice the lack of upkeep.

+1 and a total loser. Kick him to the curb.

Women with darker hair, what's your solution? Do you dye at home or go to a salon?

Every time I dye at home I make an insane mess -- black dye is hard to deal with -- but I just can't pay $90 every 4 weeks in a salon.

Ugh, this has become such a pain for me. Medium brown hair, probably 30% grey at this point with almost all grey around my face (at least this is my guess based on my roots). I am on an every three week (yep you read that right) cycle at my salon - my roots are noticeable after one week and out of control if I let it go to 4-5 weeks. I alternate between full color and roots only, every 3 weeks. I tried at home color (I posted a month or two ago for tips) and it didn't cover the grey and dried out my hair, so I am stuck with the salon bc I cannot stand the look of grey hair on me- I feel I look so much older.

Every 3 months at a hair salon. Then I touch up my roots at home every 10 days. It only takes 10 min as versus 2-3 hours at the salon.

Once a week! Yep, I color my own roots at home. I found a root bottle, it's easy to use, and mix my own color. My hair grows very very fast, and I have grey roots in about a week, with more around my face. It sucks, but I've been grey since I was 28, and am now 48.

Oh my. This is my future. I'm 41, started coloring at 28 b'c of big gray patches, colored every 6 weeks until 38, then every 4 weeks until 40, now every 3 weeks. My hair also grows fast and thick and I see roots in about 10 days, esp. around my face and neck. I've tried letting it go and it ages me badly. I look washed out and sickly. Guess I need to prepare myself for a new weekly chore in a few years.
