Hogan running for Senate

Thing is though, if Hogan wins and caucuses with Republicans, Donald Trump and MAGA Majority Leader will be setting the agenda, not “moderate” Larry Hogan. Sure, maybe once every 3 or 4 years he’ll vote against something you hate, but he’ll do so only if he’s been given permission beforehand because his vote isn’t needed. He will never ever EVER provide the deciding vote against something desired by Donald Trump or MAGA.

Everyone wants Maryland voters to vote strategically. Maybe they should just vote for whomever they feel will represent the whole state best in Congress.

If you want MAGA policies, by all means vote for Larry Hogan because that’s what you’ll be getting. Just don’t delude yourself into thinking that putting Larry Hogan in the U.S. Senate for 6 years will lead to more moderate legislation or SC justices. It won’t. Being a senator is nothing like being a governor.

What MAGA policies does Hogan support?

The ones supported by the Republicans in the Senate, if he gets elected. What do you think caucusing with the Republicans in the Senate means?

+1. I’m so tired of the Democrat echo chamber that can’t point to anything positive about their candidates so instead tell everyone that they need to vote against MAGA/Trump, even though Hogan is neither MAGA nor a Trumper.

Why don’t you tell me what caucusing means? Individual Senators are given broad discretion so you seem to want to insinuate something with out actually saying it.

DP.. The R senate managed to support the spending bill and Ukraine aid bill. And the Rs in the House are also starting to put the ultra right like MTG in their place.

I like Hogan. I think he will be good for the senate.

Selfishly, I want to try and reduce the probability that Biden's ridiculous capital gain/step up in basis changes to occur. A sane Republican in the Senate will help.

I will also vote for Biden..

Imagine explaining this rationale to your children and grandchildren.

What..that I am trying to maximize their financial security versus giving to an inept government run by 80 year olds? Quite easy!

I would never vote for Trump but I can in good conscience vote against my livelihood and that of my children.

On the one hand, it's bad for the country and the planet. On the other hand, your children may inherit more money from you when you die. So who's to say, really?

I can argue a restrictive tax on capital gains is bad for the country..it would reduce large scale transactions of assets/businesses.

No one is right, vote for what is in your family's best interest.

I usually try to vote for what's in society's best interests. "What's in it for me" is not a good guiding principle.

While that's admirable. Everyone's view on what is good for society is different. Vote for your family first, party second. If more people did that, I think we get more done instead of blabbering around what some ultra MAGA and Ultra Progressive think is best for society. Most americans don't give a crap about society, they care about their families.

It appears many people don't fit the two parties. I hate so many things republicans do and hate so many things democrats do. Can we please get out of this idiotic two party system? It would hopefully kill off both extremes from ever getting power.

If you think Republicans are repudiating and rejecting MAGA, I really don't know what to say.

And how do they use this broad discretion that they are given?

Well, there was one Senator holding up all military promotions for months.

But you tell me what caucusing means. I am a Democrat planning on voting for Hogan so curious to know how it will fulfill the MAGA agenda, as you say.

Larry Hogan signs up with Team Republican. Team Republican pushes the MAGA agenda. Larry Hogan always provides the deciding votes if/when his votes are needed. Larry Hogan only becomes “moderate” when his vote is not needed.
