Westfield HS-Student murdered

We have no idea if there were any drugs involved at all.

Concerned parents: how many of your kids are friends with kids who go to Mountainview (known for bad kids)?

Yes we do because one of the charges against the shooter is distribution of cocaine! SMH.

That was for an unrelated criminal investigation.

I would like to know why there was a warrant out for the suspecr's arrest but he was just driving around living his best life. If he had been arrestsd in a timely manner on that warrant, this kid would be alive.

You don't know that they were planning to meet. The 18 year old could have been there for any other reason, or he could live there himself. We have hardly any facts.

This was not school related.

But that did not stop our idiotic superintendent from bloviating about it over email to the entire FCPS community.

I wish she would resign and go back to Washington where she came from.

A former FCPS student shot at two current FCPS students, and killed one of them. Possibly right after they got off the bus, possibly right near a bus stop. There was a manhunt all over our community and the police could not find the killer. The police were all over one of our schools interrogating students. Parents were not informed. Yes, this is "school related". What's wrong with you?

I would like an explanation for this from FCPD as well.

Any time an FCPS student is killed, its "school related".

Parents should have been told Wednesday night that a student was shot and the killer--a former student--was still on the loose. They should have been told there would be a large police presence at school the next day, and students would be questioned.

Here’s a question…

Was Michelle Reid standing by the police chief at a press conference about the Nov 20 incident where a FCPS student died and 5 others injuried on a school day morning in McLean due to excessive speed and drunk driving? FCPS would deploy grief counselors to affected schools, etc, but to stand next to the police chief at press conference?

No one is blaming fcps. Some Westfield families felt the school should have communicated more information yesterday.

The transfers in/out has been posted on here and yes, Westfield had a lot going out and that's just a fact. If the belligerent poster wants to dig it up, he should do that.

Do people think Westfield is bad, or just too big? And if the latter maybe they ought to slow down before they expand Centreville to 3000.

Its too big, and for a school that big, the academic offerings are minimal. All the downsides of a huge school, none if the upsides. And frankly, the building itself is just grim and depressing.

What academic offerings would you like to see Westfield offer? They offer Multi and Linear Algebra that other some FCPS schools and privates don’t offer.

They discontinued Latin recently, which was disappointing, and don’t offer AP Physics C:E&M. Aside from those, what academic courses would you like to see offered? I believe if there is enough interest in a class the school would try to offer it.

Here’s the deal…Carson and Rocky Run feed into Westfield. Rocky Run for AAP students and Carson for both AAP and boundary reasons. They are two of the best middle schools in the area. There are lots of academically bright and challenged students at Westfield. Westfield has students admitted Ivies every year.

I wouldn't waste your time. Westfield is jus as good as other FCPS high schools-and offers a lot of great opportunities for students. The poster cleary has issues with Westfield- most likely very personal that she/he is using to smear the school. People like this are at every school.

The email from the principal Wednesday night was a form letter about a student death. No context. No details. It was more alarming to later hear a student was murdered and another shot at. I don’t blame the principal for not saying more, it was an active investigation at the time.

What I don’t appreciate is principal not addressing kids being questioned by police officers - were their parents even notified? Or the TV cameras outside the school for the past two days. Or whether the incident took place on the victims way home from school. Perhaps some of this needs to come home from FCPD, but more communication is needed with Westfield parents.

I’m sorry for the victims and their families, truly. However, I want to know my child is safe at school and to/from schools. They still have not addressed if the victims were in school Wednesday and walking home from bus.

Agree with all this as well as the lack of communication on Thursday when the manhunt was ongoing.

This bothered me.

We’ve been told for years that incidents to and from school are school matters. A student murdered at any time affects the student body — heck, even those of natural causes do but the school ignores those. Frankly it is disgusting that students are wheeled out by EMS during school and students are told nothing happened. It is conditioning them to not care about anything. I’m grateful the superintendent at least acknowledged this incident.

From my understanding this was more of a gang issue, not a drug deal.
