Westfield HS-Student murdered

Does the title say “student murdered while in Westfield High School”?

This is posted in the school forum, not the Metro Forum where it belongs. The school isn't in involved, it was kids who had a fight.

The police showed up at 3:50. The exact time of the shooting is unknown.

Buses leave at 3:10 or later from the school. This neighborhood is easily 15-20 minutes away and the bus makes multiple stops. It is plausible that the dispute began on the bus or shortly after 1 or more students departed the bus. We don't know if the other two kids involved went to Westfield, or not.

What is unlikely is that a kid had time to get off the bus, go home, get a gun, go outside, find his friends, and get in a fight and then shoot at them between Bus Departure and Police arrival at 3:50.

What difference does it make where the shooting happened? The school today is full of police officers investigating a murder and trying to find the at-large shooter. Do you give us your royal permission to talk about that in the schools forum?

And what difference does it make where he was murdered? It sounds like they got home from school, and had a fight. Not really enough time to go home and get a gun, which means the student likely had the gun at school. The shooting was at 3:30, school dismissal is 3:00, they likely took the bus home so that's right around when they would be getting off the bus.

The shooting was at 3:50. Your entire self-involved premise is wrong.

What does this phrase mean?

Same as yesterday's post "shooting at McNair" implying an occurrence at McNair ES when in reality it was the surrounding McNair neighborhood. Obviously these are titled this way to give the appearance of dangerous schools to show up in news and search results.

Correct but this has been brought to the moderator’s attention and nothing is done to retitle the threads. It turns the forum into click bait.

Dude, everything is not about politics. A parent whose kid is at Westfield HS posted this, not some troll with an agenda. Sorry that the exact wording was not to your liking but jesus christ have some perspective.

100%. Also there are many non-native first gen parents in our community. Wording isn’t intended to be shocking. It’s intended to make others who have kids there aware. It’s horrible and devastating to hear. I’m so sorry to hear this.

Yes, the title is intended to make parents aware of a school shooting. But there wasn't a school shooting. So the title is misleading and causes confusion and panic.

Considering there are police at the school now investigating the death, I would say the title is appropriate.

As pp said, get some perspective. This is a place for people to discuss FCPS schools, of course parents put the name of the school in the title. If you want to debate politics, go to that forum. No one died and made you Thread Title Queen. I can't believe you are nitpicking about wording when a kid was shot and police are all over one of our schools trying to find the suspect.

I guess the thread on McNair got deleted b/c I don't see it.

The thread title says nothing about a school shooting, wtf is wrong with you? It says a Westfield student was murdered. Which is exactly what happened.

Read it again. The thread title is "Westfield HS-Student murdered" which means that it happened at the school. The teen was not murdered at school.

The intepretation of the "-" could go either way. It could mean that a student was murdered at Westfield (still doesn't say anything about a shooting). Or it could equally mean, a Westfield student was murdered. You are being deliberately obtuse b/c you think everyone has some kind of crazy right wing agenda (which makes you the crazy).

A kid died and Karen is more worried about people jumping to conclusions over the thread title's murky punctuation.

This is the School Forum, not the Political Forum. I don't have any agenda. But parents are very scared of school shootings. And it seems to me that posting an ambiguous thread about a school shooting is unhelpful for everyone. It's easy to fix. OP can ask Jeff to edit the thread title to say that a teen from Westfield was murdered. But she is concerned that there might be a gun at the school right now. She isn't concerned about the dead teen, only herself.
