Ours works for us but it means ours can never move up a level.

I was under the impression that the closure is scheduled for 18 months - what do you mean by "never"?

I'm not the PP but best case scenario on the construction is two years and with the way things work with local government, it's probably going to be longer.

Yeah - so if your child is already in high school, this may very well add up to "never".

I’m so sorry, PP. I was surprised that some groups will practice 80% at SS, while for other groups the practices are much more evenly distributed across locations that might work for most families. Wonder if coach location preference played a role.

I'm thrilled for our locations. I suspect knowing at least one of our coaches, it was chosen that way. However the times completely changed which is good and bad. At least we can make it work.

It means with other activities even if my child can get into a higher group, we'd have to decline due to location and times. Kid does lots more than just swimming.

So, that's at least a year or two, assuming things go by schedule. With a HS kid, eventually they will graduate.

Primary driver was trying to keep the groups same/similar practice times/days. I have been told that there were some inaccuracies and omissions in this initial memo(dryland times not listed) and that there should be an update in the not too distant future. But, it won't be drastically different from what you see.

Our practice times are all over the place. Nice to keep the times but if you have to drive 30 minutes, that isn't going to work for everyone. If we had to go to Gaithersburg no way we could make it at the same time.

I don't know that there realistically is/was a solution that would "work for everyone" other than the status-quo...

At least there is clarity and folks can make informed decisions.

If anyone has some first-hand experience of the various/best parking options and costs at Silver Spring, I'd love to hear them...I believe county parking in SS is a dollar an hour(?)

That’s my understanding- $1 per hr. For a totally unrelated activity at SSRAC, we were told to park at the county-owned garage at 8530 Cameron St. From Google maps, it looks like it’s a very large garage that’s directly across the street from the pool (one end of the garage is, at least).

There is a lot and plenty of side streets you can go wait on.

They should open the open slots in other pools to the current families at ksac to start.

Can someone please share where the minis are going to practice and also the Juniors?

Agree they should offer it, and they haven’t said they won’t, so I wouldn’t totally rule it out as a possibility. but I doubt switching to another site would work for many families. Possibly those who are exactly between 2 county pools but picked KSAC. But then there’s the attachment to current coach and teammates - it’s really like starting over with a new club.

Except there aren't really any slots to open at the other sites - all the locations are pretty much at capacity as is.

But, in any given year, there are some kids that do shift around to different sites and this year will be no different other than there could be in increase in the number of families similar to yours who might want too switch out of KSAC. I don't know what the process entails but I think others have said that you need to attend the July try out for that site. Probably something you want to ask about sooner rather than later.

Good luck and report back here if you find out any details on availability and transfer process.

It could work. I’d rather one over others if that was the only option.

There are always kids who leave each group and they could make some larger with more coaches, if enough families want a different location. They should have done a poll with families and looked at all the options. This might work well for us, but I cannot imagine for most.

We transferred sites in the past and they let us do it mid-year but it was for a very specific reason. Usually they make you try out again and I cannot imagine a kid like mine being accepted at this point.
