It's not unusual to deny a family member's mental illness but it is unusual to let your mentally ill family member have access to semiautomatic assault rifles and guns and to take them target shooting.

I did not read the previous 12 pages so this is probably repetitive. I have no reason to think she shouldn't have had the guns. I have major issues with the fact that they were not well enough secured. Whatever mistakes and/or errors in judgement she made, she paid the ultimate price.

I have heard (through the media... which has been pretty inaccurate in this case so who knows where the truth lies) that she talked to friends about his issues, acknowledged that things were getting worse, told someone that watched him that he needed to be watched like a hawk, etc. She may have been in denial about just how bad his issues were, but she knew that they were there.

Yes you can buy weapons online. They are shipped not to you but to a local FFL dealer and you still have to pass all the state checks before you can pick up the weapon.

PP here. Yes, thankfully they are at least not shipped directly to your house. So at the minimum you have to be able to dress yourself and have the mental capability to find the dealership....

Bottom line, if you have any minor living in your house, mentally disturbed or not, you need to at least have your guns locked up in a safe with a combination. We dont know exactly how he obtained the firearms yet but I doubt he was a professional locksmith and safe driller. That means they were not secured in the home and she shares the blame of what happened, even in death.

Gee I don't know, maybe he knocked her out with a baseball bat and then searched the home for a key or combination number to the gun closet. We just don't know.

This mom had tons of $$$ and used it to buy a shitload of weapons instead of trying to get her son the best doctors $ could buy....she possibly could have helped heal his sick twisted mind, but instead she took him to a shooting range!

She didn't just pay the ultimate price, 26 other innocent people had to go with her. The woman may be dead but she bears some responsibility for that.
