WASHINGTON - If you weren't able to get White House Easter Egg Roll tickets this year, you're not alone. Now frustrated parents are learning that piles of tickets are being handed out to 'special groups,' including gay and lesbian families.

In 2006, the Family Equality Council began organizing gay and lesbian families, so that more would make the effort to camp out and score coveted tickets to the White House Easter Egg Roll. It's since become an annual event, and this year the council got word the White House would be helping them out.

D.C resident Cathy Renna rolled up her sleeves and rolled out her sleeping bag, camping out on the Ellipse to get tickets and then go with other gay and lesbian families to enjoy the White House Easter Egg Roll. ABC 7 Talkback:

This year, however, the White House contacted them, saying 100 tickets would be set aside for gay and lesbian families.

"The people on the staff who work with the gay and lesbian community certainly know about the egg roll and it's history, so it was wonderful of them to reach out," Renna said.

But others have objected. One poster on wjla.com wrote, "Seems like every group wants equality and at the same time they expect special treatment."

White House officials say a far larger portion of tickets were set aside for military families and 2,000 set aside for Washington-area school children. But one mom says no one, not even military families, should get special tickets.

"A child is a child. They should get to enjoy that event...please do not show preference. That's just not fair," Thermil added.

Chanel Lovett of Woodbridge says it doesn't bother her in the least the White House gave special tickets, even after she tried to get tickets online for her kids but got booted off.

"We were a little disappointed, but we'll try again next year," Lovett added.

The info that came with the tickets says no outside food allowed. Does anyone know if there are food vendors onsite for this? I'm thinking that's a little impossible, having young kids go 3 hours without food in the middle of the day. At least for my young ones.

anyone know who will be performing? I am in group B.

My friend has 4 tickets for group A and I have 3 tickets for group B. We'd really like to be there at the same time. Anyone interested in swapping?

I am volunteering at the egg roll. There will be food vendors.

Does anyone have any info about the program? If we have group A tickets, do we get kicked out at 10?

Hey, ok this is kind of funny. This is the Great zucchini and I just found out my performance times. My first show, they told me was 7:30 in the morning. I'm not an owl. I thought it started at 8. Oh, interesting. My second show is at 10:15. Hopefully, they made a mistake with my first timeslot, or I hope the trees enjoy my performance. I will be walking around most of the day after my shows, so dcurbanmoms and dads, please come say hello. Gz

I like this. I think it shows how the Obamas are working to make sure DC gets some love and that everyone has a chance for tickets. I love that military families are getting tickets and I also love the area school kids are getting tickets. Hear hear!

Ah, thank you for this. All day my friends and I have been joking about the fact that I will be performing for the vendors. I'm psyched about the 10:00 show, and now I'm excited to know the early people will be in so I can party with them also. Have a great time everyone. Gz

Are these the only 2 shows you are doing that day? Our tickets are for the 115pm timeslot and I was looking forward to seeing your show. I just assumed the same shows/events went on all day for all groups.
