Curse removal by a qualified priest

Anonymous
To my understanding, the only person that can remove the curse is the one that originally set the curse. I think we need to be aware and considerate of who we "set off", OP.

Atlantic, I think, had an article about the increase in the number of exorcisms that are being performed.

Op has more power than anyone over a curse. She had to activate her energy.

Curses aren’t a Catholic belief. I’m from 2 very Catholic cultures where there’s a lot of syncretism from other older religions so I get why you think you might be cursed, but no serious Catholic clergy is going to “remove a curse”.

Do you think you are possessed?

Those are demonic possessions. Not curses. Curses are imposed by humans who have gained supernatural agency somehow.

Say the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel every day.

Yes they are. Haven’t you seen the exorcism?

You need to rub together one grey and dark beard hairs of a virgin while saying a secret incantation 71 times. I could sell you the incantation for a one time special price if you pm me.

That’s not a curse in the sense of a human being placing something on you. Also, I am related to a former student of one of the priests involved in the real Georgetown case. The movie is not accurate.

Materialist?

I’m a former Catholic, am now a Methodist. Maybe you meant to say “Methodist.”

Exoricism = casting out a demon from a person. Consistent with the Catholic belief that demons exist, and can move in our corporeal world, and in rare cases can "possess a person."

Curses = calling down bad energy onto a person. Not a part of the Catholic tradition.

OP - here's why I don't think you are cursed despite generally thinking curses could exist and having some contact with a culture/community where they are a thing. Curses are really serious business and most folks, even if they are from a culture that believes in or practices them, won't mess with that over a petty falling out.

There’s definitely a belief that those things can bounce back on you (in some cultures, it’s three fold or sevenfold) so there are many more good spells than evil curses. My grandmother had socially acceptable prescience, but was accused of being a bruja simply because after a rival suffered a pregnancy loss, my grandmother gave birth to a disabled child. It was viewed as a three fold consequence. After that she stopped sharing her visions and became more traditionally Catholic.

Wait, aren't there a lot of curses in the Bible? Some of them are issued by God--Adam, Eve, and the serpent, the fig tree.

But also, the devil/demons have had a resurgence in Christianity (along with the increase in Catholic exorcisms) with curses associated with demons even if the source of the curse is someone practicing a non-Christian religion.

So then the question is whether you need a priest. The Protestant tradition, which (for better or worse) includes most evangelicals, would say no.

If you are a Catholic, then call your diocese and ask about exorcism.

Yes, but those are curses God imposed —though sometimes at the request of a prophet and only in cases of some grave sin. So if OP thinks God gave her piles or caused her fruit tree to either, it is unlikely she’ll get far with just asking a priest to remove the curse. He will probably encourage reflection and repentance in order to reconcile with God. She’s getting nowhere with telling a priest that her jealous neighbor asked God to punish her with an extra thirty pounds or getting passed over for a promotion.

An exorcism is for confirmed possessions.
