I am a total liberal but pay a shitload in taxes. That is one parade I would attend to see what all my tax dollars are buying.

Both the US and West German militaries did this. When I was younger and moved to Ft Carson they did as well. They also had open base days and allowed the civilian population to come on base and climb in the tanks and stuff.

As a proud veteran and proud American I see nothing wrong with it. Then again I don't hate the President or the country.

I agree. I'm not a veteran but grew up knowing many WW2 vets-family, friends of parents, my friend's parents, teachers, etc. We should be proud of our country's military history. Sadly I also knew many who out of obligation or draft also served in Vietnam. Some friends children have dies in the ME and others have been more fortunate and their children have emerged intact.

Too much focus here on illegals. It is our country-not another state of Mexico.

I would be uncomfortable with my spouse marching in this sort of parade. I don't mind a formation or a welcome home or a ticker tape parade, but this sort of show/review seems odd to me. Trump may mean it respectfully but it does come across as vain glorious and about him, not the warriors. - spouse who is neither for or against but rather bemused by Trump

I'm former military and would march in this. Nice to see a President who supports the troops and is proud of us.

This has absolutely zero ZERO to do with honoring our military. I work with the US Military and hold them in very high esteem. They do not want soemthing like this. they see it for the foolish and vainglorious ridiculouness it would be.

PLUS, a parade that includes military vehicles and planes will cost a fortune - seriously Millions of dollars. Its costs a lot to fly and drive our military planes, helicopters, tanks, humvees, etc... the fuel alone... and that doesnt take into consideration to amount of money it would cost to shore up the streets and thoroughfares of Washingotn to support the massive weight and destructrive treads of these vehicles.

This is not patriotic, its not in honor of our military, its a wholly wasteful and ill considered idea.

Yes, despite living in NYC, Trump clearly was a shitty father who never took his kids down to see the ships during Fleet Week, or to see the Blue Angels, or to a base open house, or he would know that the military puts on lots of displays all over the country and they are very popular. I'm totally liberal but always take my kids, and we've been to see the USS Midway and the Intrepid and lots of other things like that as well.

There are lots of ways people can see the military. It doesn't have to be a parade with the President in a reviewing stand.

And there already is a 4th of July parade down Constitution Ave in DC, and all branches of the military march in it (along with high school bands, floats, etc.)

How does your spouse feel? It was your spouse who swore an oath to the United States; you are simply a dependent

Poor Trump -- he clearly needs to compensate for something by showing off some big missiles.

I think if DJT took a big huge sh*t in the middle of the street you would find a way to say that while on first glance this may look like an insane thing to do, in fact it is utterly brilliant - and anyway, HILLARY.

Then why didn't Trump say he wanted to have a parade at every Army base and invite the public? Why doesn't he say he is restoring funding to the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds, since they had to cut back on their tours since the sequester?

Because, like his tweets "honoring" the troops and veterans and first responders, it is really a publicity opportunity for him.

Remember folks, he admires Putin. This is a Putin move, too. Big egos; little hands.

I have family members who served in the military. I don't want them paraded around just to make Trump feel like he's got all the power in his little hands.

Serious ego issues.

Why don't you join the 4th of July parade that is already marching down Pennsylvania Ave every year?
