Would it be wise to buy a $360,000.00 house in woodbridge now?

It is not just that; it is bland, cookie-cutter, stripmallish and far away from anything interesting = hell no. Oh, it is green, it has that going for it.

I used to live in there Lake Ridge portion of Woodbridge and I don't think it is as bad as people make it out to be. If you have to work in DC, Woodbridge is good because I find you have a lot of commuting options. You can slug, pick up slugs (HOV purposes), catchthe Omni ride, or VRE.

I only moved because I wanted to be able to ride my bicycle to work.

There are plenty of good people that live in Woodbridge and raise perfectly fine/great families.

That area on 95 is a parking lot almost 24/7. I would find it frustrating never being able to get anywhere without sitting in traffic.

On the plus side, Potomac Mills and Ikea are there.

There are pockets of nice neighborhoods with good schools surrounded by larger, less-nice areas. You need to do your research.

the areas near the newer shopping center south of Potomac Mills are nice. They are going to build the new baseball stadium for the Potomac Nationals there.

I honestly don't understand the strip malls complaints. If you live in almost any suburb in the DC area, you are dealing with strip malls. Some are nicer than others, of course, but seriously - get a grip. They are a fact of life in American suburbia.

LakeRidge is nice but I personally would avoid all areas East of I-95. You definitely get more bang for you buck and there is lots of diversity but the traffic along 95 is horrible. At all hours.

Anyone who can afford to flees Woodbridge for Ffx County. Woodbridge is low class. - former resident

It will help me to decide if you could say why Woodbridge is such a bad place to invest. I am new in this area.

Not the PP, but Woodbridge did not fare well during the recent housing bust. There were many, many foreclosures and housing prices fell through the floor. It has nice parts but is lower income than other VA suburbs and therefore, as a whole, is considered less desirable. As noted, Woodbridge also would be a long commute into DC.

Thank you all.

+1. Most people that live out there, work out there. DC isn't for everyone! Our commutes would be horrific if we lived in DC

A lot of people who live in woodbridge work in Southern FFX (like Ft Belvoir) or in Alexandria - or even in Arlington, I think. So they still have to deal with I95.

But the new HOT lanes will soon be an alternative, and VRE is for access to old town alex, to Crystal City, and to DC

All along I though Ffx County was low class.

So, you think you are too good for woodbridge? ..... Interesting.....

I live in woodbridge and I love it! Great for my family. I certainly don't hang out with uptight people like you though.

Head for Potomac Mills outlet and just walk around a bit. I ran screaming.

360K in Woodbridge can be a good price, depending on the area. There are a lot of nice pockets and tons of new homes that have been built in the last 10 years. We could give better advice if you told us exactly where.

I am looking for something between Hoadly Road and Dale Blvd. I know the schools are moderate but do not know about the area. Thank You.
