Please say something if you are sure that this person is a registered offender. Print out the sheet from the database, make a thousand copies at Kinkos and hand them out to parents at drop-off and pickup.

If he is a parent, he needs to make other arrangements for his child to get home from school.
Always make sure you know why first. You can end up on that list for many reasons.

If it's for statutory rape, I don't care nor should someone be on a list for that.

according to the sex offender page he was charged in 2007 with Indecent liberties with child by custodian.

There are pedophiles everywhere. Don't focus so much attention on a registry.

I so agree with this. That registered sex offenders list is so far reaching. What if he was 21 and slept with someone 17 and the parents freaked out? I mean really!!! I bet that Beauvoir teacher wasn't a registered sex offender. It's the ones who haven't been caught yet who are the problem.

There you go - he's a sicko. Go talk to the principal. Then call the police and have them follow up with him (he is actively monitored - has an assigned person I'm sure).

But how does him picking up his own child from school affect your child's safety? If the school sides with you (and in today's litigious, paranoid society, I can't imagine a school administrator being brave enough not to) can you imagine what his kid will feel when daddy has to explain why he can't pick them up from school any more. Will he have to pull the kid out of school altogether until alternate arrangements, arrangements that may not be as safe or comfortable to the child, can be made? Why would you do this to this kid who surely did not do anything wrong?

This is why I asked the question here first. For all I know the school already knows. This child is older than mine and we go to a different school. (This is one of the "choice" schools in the area) So everything in me is saying MYOB but a small part of me is saying what if something happens and I did not say anything.

So he may have been an 18-year-old camp counselor who kissed (indecent liberties means no sex) a 16-year-old camper. But even if it was something much more sinister, the point is, if that's his own child he is picking up from school, no one is getting hurt, certainly not your child or the children of other parents.

If he is no longer on probation/parole, then his only obligation is to register as a sex offender, and abide by whatever state/federal statutes are applicable. Some states may prevent an offender from residing within a certain area of a school, but I don't think any prevent an offender for being on school grounds for a valid purpose (maybe they prevent loitering, though). If he is still on probation/parole, then there may be more strict standards that he must abide by.

Charged or convicted?

How old would he have been in 2007? Any additional info on the conviction? The description of the offense sounds like it could cover a HUGE range of actions and circumstances.

Are you sure you have the right person? Does the registry include mugshots or just addresses? More than one person could live at the offender's address.

If your kids go to a different school then you should really limit your action to calling the police and checking with them if he should be allowed to pick his kids up from school.

Sorry should have said convicted and I'm sure it's the same guy because he goes in and out of the same house. It's one of those houses where a lot of people live so I'm not sure if the kids belong to him or not.

Jesus Christ lady. Hold on a goddamn second. A child can't be met at school by his own parent because of your hysteria?

Fantastic. This is how people get killed. By rumors.

Maybe I'm mis-reading here but do you mean a lot of adults live in the house/building? If so then the guy could just happen to live at the same address as the person with the conviction. Be careful with public naming and shaming as you could have the wrong person and you could tarnish someone's reputation for many years to come.

Also from the title of the offense it could be something very minor - it really depends on circumstances as to whether it actually indicates a risk to kids. It's a class 5 felony in VA - barely worse than a serious misdemeanor so chances are he wasn't caught luring little kids into his basement.

Call the non-emergency police number for the local police station and check in with them. If it is the guy and he is doing something he shouldn't they will come down on him like a ton of bricks.

Which means the custodial parent in a custody fight charged the other parent with doing something. What a shock.

You seem like a very reasonable person, and your response is well-thought-out and not hysterical in any way. As you point out, his offence might have been very minor. The thing is, from what I know of sex offender laws, it probably is illegal for him to be anywhere near a school, even to pick up his own children. My question is, who will benefit from this call to the police? Will neighborhood children be somehow safer? Will his own children, whose life has already been affected in many adverse ways from having a father on the registry, be better off if he can no longer pick them up? Even in the worst case scenario, if he is abusing his own kids, presumably the daylight walk from school to home in full view of the neighbors isn't where the crime takes place. So what would be your motivation for calling?
