And other countries don’t have such a free-for-all with gun access. |
- license and pass a safety test (just like we have for cars)
- license can be taken away for violations, safety hazards (just like for cars) - insurance required (just like we have for cars) - police need to have more powerful weapons that citizenry are allowed (just like for cars, police can access equipment citizenry can’t) Americans love cars just like they love guns. But we seem not to have totally lost their mind over them. |
Mandatory safety training.
24 hour wait period to buy guns. If we can regulate women’s health care this way we can do it for this. It would lower the rate of heat of the moment shootings. Registration. |
Allow gun manufacturers to be sued. Why do they get special protections? We can sue all other manufacturers but not guns? |
If you take the time to buy a gun legally, whatever evil you are planning with it can wait a day. When you buy legally, that gun has a serial number and that serial number is linked to you |
I think people can sue them now. At least in a limited way. https://apnews.com/article/sandy-hook-school-shooting-remington-settlement-e53b95d398ee9b838afc06275a4df403 The civil court case in Connecticut focused on how the firearm used by the Newtown shooter — a Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle — was marketed, alleging it targeted younger, at-risk males in advertising and product placement in violent video games. In one of Remington’s ads, it features the rifle against a plain backdrop and the phrase: “Consider Your Man Card Reissued.” But they shouldn’t be protected from liability. |
So. Any legitimate argument against gun control?
If not, let’s get ‘er done. |
It's not about the "taking"...it's the prescribing, and that is why I used that word. I want doctors to notify NICS whenever they prescribe a psychoactive medication. I do realize that this covers a lot of people. |
Age? I don't know. What can we agree on? 23? 25? An age where we hope there is some sense of stability or maturity. And an age by which certain earlier transgressions would have been handled as an adult rather than juvenile. |
They can be sued under state laws, but not federally. Makes it difficult to build class action cases against the manufacturers, but not impossible. It took the Newtown parents many years to finally finish their lawsuit. California is mounting some very big cases against gun manufacturers. Basically, to bleed them dry and have the manufacturers come begging for consistent regulation. |
Common sense?
Red flag laws Inclusion of juvenile record in background check for under 25 Harden schools so tougher to get access Increased federal spending on mental health Increased background checks and mental health screening Elimination of gun shows - at least how they run now Ban high capacity magazines Ban ghost guns Mandatory safety training Better police training All of this can be done now. There is support for much of this now on both sides. Maybe there is more/other items. |
The votes are not going to be there to change the age. Even after this. |
I think having the juvenile record being part of background check for people under 25 could get done. It sounds like the shooter had an issue at age 14 that if known should have disqualified him from being able to purchase. I think this can get done right away. |
+1 Get it done. No more lane excuses. |
What is the issue with online sales exactly? Any weapon purchased online isn’t going to be shipped directly from the seller -> buyer, but instead to a FFL holder, who completes the transaction and administers the necessary background check on the person who bought the weapon online |
