why are people so angry on this board?

Sure there are some rude posters on this board, but I have to say that I find most of the posters very helpful! Just tune out the rude people and you'll be fine.

Look through the past threads, especially where people ask for advice. You get dozens of responses by people genuinely trying to help. Honestly, I find that pretty amazing. That you occasionally get a few negative posts, but most are overwhelmingly supportive.

Think of your day to day interactions. I'd say I come across about 50% nice people/50% rude people on a daily basis. I work with the public, so I see all kinds. I think the odds on here are actually better.

People are opinionated and feel their opinion is correct and the right thing (ie sleep training, bfing, etiquette, epidurals, etc. all make for lively flame wars).

Add to the mix the luxury of an anonymous forum and the "tell like it is" perspective rears it's ugly head.

because we are stuck in DC in a tiny apartment, and are desperately trying to move somewhere else, but so far, to no avail...sigh...so, we are pissed, angry, and willing to take it out on people posting in an anonymous forum

This still wouldn't have made me as angry as it seemed to have made you. Traffic is common in this area. I don't get upset because to me it's just 40 minutes. And to someone else it is there life lost in a accident, or today a funeral procession. I think the all the time anger is a personality thing. Some people get stressed a lot easier than others.

The nanny boards are a train wreck. I think there are a lot of trolls on there.

I like DCUM. There are quite a few obnoxious posters. I assume it is someone having a bad day or sexual frustration. Seriously, there are always some in a large group that get upset over miniscule things. It usually adds character to a discussion. Unless it is on the nanny boards and then it adds a host of completely pointless and hateful bullshit. Thankfully, as a nanny, I have never met anyone in the real nanny world that even resembles the majority of posters over there.

I'm a kindergarten teacher and have to be cheerful and nice all day to multiple parties: children, parents, fellow teachers, administration.

DCUM helps me to vent, rant, and unleash my cynical side (K teachers aren't supposed to have cynicism). When I see a post that is overtly stupid, I don't hesitate to flame. It's anonymous, and if you are taking it personally, get over it!
