VHSL Boys 2024 Season (Discussion and Scores)

And my son informed me about some unsavory language being produced my the mouths of many McLean lacrosse players. When I say unsavory I mean vehemently homophobic, racist, and crude remarks targeted at opposing players. I’m considering bringing up this misconduct in other VHSL, any thoughts of advice?

I can't tell if this fake post is meant to make Langley look bad or McLean look bad (or both) but please stop and let the serious people talk about lacrosse. Moderator are you reading this silliness? Thank you!

1. Robinson (11-0)

Results: Def. Fairfax 19-3, Def. Woodson 23-9, Def. Stone Bridge 11-7

Analysis: Robinson started the week very strong with wins over Fairfax and Woodson. But on Saturday they had a very close game against a bad Stone Bridge team. Following Saturday we were close to giving Freedom South Riding the number 1 spot nod, however they are high school kids and are allowed to have a bad day. I expect them to learn from the game and easily win out the rest of the year. Coming up they do have a Lake Braddock team who two years ago ended their state championship dreams out of nowhere, although this Braddock team still has good players they are not the same and probably won't be able to keep it close.

Quality Wins: Madison, Yorktown, McLean, Langley
Decent Wins: West Potomac, South County
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/25 @ Lake Braddock, 4/27 vs. Cosby

2. Freedom South Riding (10-0)

Results: Def. Unity Reed 20-2, Def. Patriot 10-8

Analysis: A blowout win against a bad Unity Reed team does not say much, however the close game does say a ton. We were surprised by the way the Eagles came out and played a very average Patriot team close. Because of this close game we thought about dropping them but their undefeated record and earlier win are very strong.

Quality Wins: Riverside, Briar Woods
Decent Wins: Patriot
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/15 vs. Gainesville, 4/18 vs. Oakton, 4/18 @ Battlefield

3. Langley (8-3)

Results: Def. Marshall 21-1, Def. Wakefield 20-2, Def. Cosby 9-6

Analysis: Another solid week for the Saxons. Started the week in blowout fashion against two bad teams within their district, further solidifying their 1 seed in the Liberty District. On Saturday against a strong Region A foe the Saxons were able to defeat Cosby in solid fashion generally controlling the whole way through. Coming up the Saxons have two games back to back days against two decent teams look for them to win those pretty easily and likely not lose again this regular season.

Quality Wins: Yorktown, McLean, Cosby
Decent Wins: None
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/17 vs. Sidwell Friends, 4/27 vs. South Lakes (@ South County)

4. Battlefield (7-0)

Results: Def. Gainesville 15-4, Def. Fauquier 17-4, Def. Osbourn Park 16-0, Def. McLean 11-8

Analysis: After a crazy week Battlefield comes out with 4 more wins including a great one against McLean on saturday. Battlefield started the week with 3 easy blowout wins before facing a solid McLean squad on Saturday, while the score may seem close the Highlanders slotted 3 right at the end of the game making look much closer than it was. This coming week look for Battlefield to cruise through Osbourn before a tough against Patriot who has been playing well and another decent one against Westfield.

Quality Wins: Briar Woods, McLean
Decent Wins: Independence
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/22 @ Osbourn, 4/25 @ Patriot, 4/27 @ Westfield

5. Yorktown (6-4)

Results: Lost to Heights 10-11 (OT), Def. WakeField 17-4, Def. Broadneck 11-7

Analysis: Yorktown just finished a huge week, starting with another OT loss to a strong Heights team, they then crushed district foe Wakefield. Then on Saturday the Patriots shocked many in fairly handily defeating a Broadneck team who crushed both Langley and Madison. Yorktown with another big one against Mclean this week, with a likely win they will secure the number two seed and a home game in the Liberty district tournament.

Quality Wins: Broadneck
Decent Wins: Oakton, Patriot
Quality Losses: Robinson, Madison, Langley, Heights

This Week: 4/25 vs. McLean, 4/29 @ Washington-Liberty,

6. Madison (5-5)

Results: Def. Woodson 16-3,

Analysis: Madison was without many games this week. In the game they did played they had an impressive win over a decent Woodson team. Coming up Madison has an important game against Concorde distinct opponent Oakton, and later another solid team in Patriot. However we expect our projection from last week to continue and Madison to finish 9-5 and #1 seed in the Concorde District.

Quality Wins: Yorktown
Decent Wins: West Potomac, Chantilly
Quality Losses: Riverside, Severna Park, Atlee

This Week: 4/25 vs. Oakton, 4/27 vs. Patriot

7. Cosby (4-2)

Results: Def. Clover Hill 17-2, Lost to Langley 9-6

Analysis: Cosby started off the week with an easy blowout win over a terrible Clover Hill team. They then traveled up to South County where they lost to a good Langley team 9-6, we decided to move them up over McLean because we think their loss to Langley isn’t as bad as Mclean loss to Battlefield and a close game against Herndon. Coming up Cosby has a chance to bounce back when they play Robinson this coming Saturday.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: None
Quality Losses: Atlee, Langley

This Week: 4/22 vs. Glen Allen, 4/27 vs. Robinson (@ South County)

8. McLean (9-3)

Results: Def. Herndon 9-6, Def. Marshall 14-0, Lost to Battlefield 11-8

Analysis: Mclean had a very disappointing week even with 2 wins. To start their week they played a pretty bad Herndon team extremely close, following that they had an easy win over Marshall before losing a game to Battlefield which was not as close as the score indicates. McLean has a huge one this week against Yorktown and a big chance for them to bounce back before playoff start.

Quality Wins: Sidwell Friends
Decent Wins: Chantilly, Woodson
Quality Losses: Robinson, Langley, Battlefield

This Week: 4/25 @ Yorktown, 4/27 vs Lake Braddock (@ Westfield)

9. Hayfield (9-0)

Results: Def. Falls Church 20-3, Def. Edison 13-3

Analysis: Hayfield again picked up another two wins against poor opponents last week. Again we are not yet sold on them as a serious contender come May, but we don’t want to discredit them too much as they still are undefeated which is somewhat impressive given their schedule. Coming up and to finish their year they have two more terrible teams so we won't get to see Hayfield play a really solid contender for a while.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Chantilly
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/25 vs. Mount Vernon

10. West Potomac (7-4)

Results: Def. Alexandria City 16-5, Def. Northern Calvert 12-11, Def. Lake Braddock 9-7

Analysis: After barely making the rankings last week, West Potomac has solidified their spot this week with two very big wins. We were on West Potomac last week about letting in too many goals and this week the defense stepped up big time. They started their week with an easy win over Alexandria City, then a big win over a solid Maryland team in Northern Calvert, and finished the week with a win over Lake Braddock. As of right now any team not currently in the top 10 will need to make some major moves and West Potomac some major losses for a change.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: South County, Lake Braddock, Northern Calvert
Quality Losses: Madison

This Week: 4/25 vs. West Springfield

Also Considered: Lake Braddock, Woodson, Oakton, Patriot, South County, Chantilly, Deep Run

Yorktown vs McLame at home not wnl. It’s a home smackdown🤪

These aren't from the Ranking Guy - someone is impersonating my format! Pretty close to what I will have though.

How in the world is freedom number 2, they only beat patriot by two. Yorktown had their 3rd and 4th midfield lines running around making fools out of the team that the supposed 2nd ranked team beat by two goals.

since everyone is playing games on here, here are the real rankings this week.

1- south lakes: they look strong
2- herndon: better than most of the teams in the state
3- Robinson: there ok at best, many better teams though
4- Langley: they are ok but still worse than south lakes
5- oakton: Defenitely better than Madison
6- Madison
7- freedom: they aren’t good
8- still disputing wether this should be Wakefield or Marshall
9- McLean: worse than Marshall
10- Yorktown: almost as good as McLean but they will fight for the #9 spot soon

Ranking Guy's Week 7 -2024 VA Boys Class 6 Rankings[u]

1. Robinson (11-0)

Results: Def. Fairfax 19-3, Def. Woodson 23-9, Def. Stone Bridge 11-7

Analysis: The Rams crushed Fairfax and Woodson but came out flat against Stone Bridge and played their worst game of the season. Maybe just a bit too cocky. Although they still won by four goals the close game may have shattered the illusion of invincibility. If the Rams don’t wake up Lake Braddock and Cosby could be a problem, but we expect Coach Curran to have the team ready. We still see Robinson going 14-0 and should take the Patriot district regular season crown.

Quality Wins: Madison, Yorktown, McLean, Langley
Decent Wins: West Potomac, South County, Woodson
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/25 @ Lake Braddock, 4/27 vs. Cosby (@ South County)

2. Battlefield (7-0)

Results: Def. Gainesville 15-4, Def. Fauquier 17-4, Def. Osbourn Park 16-0, Def. McLean 11-8

Analysis: With three easy wins by huge margins, Battlefield looked good heading into the Saturday match with McLean. Against McLean, they jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. They always had great defense but the offense is really clicking now and their ball movement seemed to have the Highlanders confused and searching for answers. The Bobcats look like the second most dangerous team and could give Robinson problems.

Quality Wins: Briar Woods, Independence, McLean
Decent Wins: None
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/22 @ Osbourn, 4/25 @ Patriot, 4/27 @ Westfield

3. Freedom South Riding (10-0)

Results: Def. Unity Reed 20-2, Def. Patriot 10-8

Analysis: Freedom crushed Unity Reed as expected but had a tight game with Patriot that was close until the end. Freedom looked sluggish and nothing like the team that beat Riverside. The Eagles drop one spot based on Battlefield’s better win but they will have a chance to regain the #2 spot when they play Battlefield next week. A bad loss might convince us the Riverside game was a fluke. Oakton could give Freedom a scare if Oakton plays to its potential and Freedom plays like it did against Patriot. Dominion gets reinstated as a Decent Win after playing Broad Run close and knocking off Briar Woods.

Quality Wins: Riverside, Briar Woods
Decent Wins: Patriot, Dominion
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/22 vs. Gainesville, 4/27 vs. Oakton (@ South County)

4. Langley (8-3)

Results: Def. Marshall 21-1, Def. Wakefield, Def. vs. Cosby 9-6

Analysis: Two easy wins against the bottom of the Liberty district, then a solid win against a good Cosby team that will definitely be a Region A representative at States. The Saxons showed patience on offense and wore Cosby down, getting better high quality shots. Sidwell could prove to be a decent test after playing McLean relatively close, followed by a match with South Lakes that Langley should be able to handle but cannot take lightly.

Quality Wins: Yorktown, McLean, Cosby
Decent Wins: None
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/25 vs. Sidwell Friends, 4/27 vs. South Lakes (@ South County)

5. Madison (6-5)

Results: Def. Woodson 16-3

Analysis: Madison bounced back from a tough loss to Atlee with a nice win over Woodson to get above .500. Despite reports of Woodson missing a player, Madison’s defense looked impressive holding Woodson to 3 goals. Madison has certainly tested themselves but have not lost this many games since 2018. We will find out in the playoffs if the strategy pays off – they are still one of the top teams in the area and know how to win when it matters most. The Warhawks have two decent challenges this week and are looking to close out the #1 seed in the Patriot district and start gearing up for the playoffs.

Quality Wins: Yorktown
Decent Wins: West Potomac, Chantilly, Woodson
Quality Losses: Riverside, Severna Park, Atlee

This Week: 4/25 vs. Oakton, 4/27 vs. Patriot (@ South County)

6. Yorktown (6-4)

Results: Lost to The Heights 11-10 (OT), Def. Wakefield 17-4, Def. Broadneck 11-7

Analysis: Yorktown played The Heights close but once again failed to convert in overtime, racking up their third OT loss. Still, it was a great effort against a solid team and may have boosted their confidence. The Patriots then shocked the world by taking down Broadneck, which had completely overwhelmed Madison and Langley. Despite some reports of Broadneck missing players, this is one of the best wins of the season by any team. Head to head losses to the two teams above keeps Yorktown from moving up any higher. Just one game this week but it is one of their most important this season when they take on Liberty District rival McLean. These teams are very evenly matched and this should be an all-out brawl.

Quality Wins: Broadneck
Decent Wins: Oakton, Patriot
Quality Losses: Robinson, Madison, Langley, The Heights

This Week: 4/25 vs. McLean

7. McLean (9-3)

Results: Def. Herndon 9-6, Def. Marshall 14-0, Lost to Battlefield 11-8

Analysis: McLean had an uninspired showing against Herndon managing just a 9-6 win. They started slowly against Battlefield and for the first time this season their defense looked outmatched. They also need to find more scoring threats. In their three losses they are averaging just six goal a game, which will not be enough to take down the top teams. McLean’s matchup with Yorktown is our game of the week. McLean wraps up its regular season early with a final game against Lake Braddock, and a long eleven-day layoff before district play begins.

Quality Wins: Sidwell Friends
Decent Wins: Chantilly, Woodson
Quality Losses: Robinson, Langley, Battlefield

This Week: 4/25 @ Yorktown, 4/27 vs. Lake Braddock (@ Wakefield)

8. Cosby (4-2)

Results: Monacan (Postponed), Def. Clover Hill 17-2, Lost to Langley 9-6

Analysis: Cosby had one game postponed and beat a very weak Clover Hill team. They then got their first look at one of the NOVA teams and performed well enough to show that they deserve to be in the top-10. Cosby looks a lot like McLean with some strong poles and quality midfielders. Robinson will be a tougher test for them on Saturday and we expect that the Rams will not take them lightly. Expect to see the Titans in the State playoffs.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: None
Quality Losses: Atlee, Langley

This Week: 4/22 vs. Glen Allen, 4/27 vs. Robinson

9. Hayfield (9-0)

Results: Def. Falls Church 20-3, Def. Edison 13-3

Analysis: Hayfield continues its slow roll towards a perfect season. They now have an almost plus-100 goal differential this season against the softest schedule possible. Hayfield takes on 1-8 Mount Vernon this week in what we be another 10+ goal victory. Hayfield and West Potomac have very similar common opponent performances and West Potomac could argue that they should be in #9 spot based on a tougher schedule but Hayfield barely holds on this week.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Chantilly, South County
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/25 vs. Mount Vernon

10. West Potomac (7-4)

Results: Def. Alexandria City 15-6, Def. Northern Calvert 12-11(OT), Def. Lake Braddock 9-7

Analysis: West Potomac got three important wins this week and are looking to be the second best team in the Patriot district. Northern Calvert is a solid team and this was a great contest where West Potomac held tough and pulled out an overtime victory. They then went on to win another close one against Lake Braddock. As noted previously, Oakton cannot overtake West Potomac with losses to Westfield and South Lakes, unless they put in a great performance against Madison. At this point, we would put Patriot ahead of Oakton and the first team out based on their Freedom showing.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: South County, Northern Calvert, Lake Braddock
Quality Losses: Madison

This Week: 4/25 vs West Springfield, 4/30 vs. Woodson

Also Considered: Chantilly, Deep Run, Lake Braddock, Oakton, Patriot, South County, South Lakes, Woodson

I totally agree these are very good and I think that South lakes has showed lots of greatness againsts other good teams that also have greatness
I also really think that Oakton can win state championship if they work really hard

Obviously not the real ranking group, can’t even get the underline correct.

Hard to say who is the real rankings guy, that being said both rankings are in depth in their analysis. So I hope in the future both differentiate their rankings, but both continue to post because the variety of informed opinions is good for the forum.

Haha, you are probably right. I will say I thought the first one was real until I the second one came out. Writing within the second one just reminded me of real rankings guy a bit more

11-7 Robinson win

This game was tied 7-7 at one point but Stone Bridge put there backup goalie in to get some reps and.....

How can Robo be #1 with such a bad effort against a bad 5A school?

It was never tied 7-7. It was 7-6 at one point.

I guess they're #1 because they're 11-0 and have beaten Yorktown, McLean, Langley, and Madison. Agreed that this was not the best showing by the "top team."

Can't argue with that

Definitely the second one. Battlefield beat McLean more easily and deserves to be higher than Langley.

Whoever hijacked the real guy's format was pretty bush league. That guy's been doing this for last couple years and put in all kinds of time with great analysis/commentary (and has been greatly appreciated). You want to do your own ranking (even though no one's really asking for it)? Fine - but at least have decency to clearly use different format. Otherwise you're just confusing what's been an entertaining forum for a while but which is slowly starting to lose its luster due to actions like this...
