Sadly I agree. I only watched the first half but Battlefield was dominating the game. They scored 3 quick goals to start the game and then every time McLean scored Battlefield immediately answered with a goal of their own. It is the first time I have seen McLean play where their defense looked a step slow and completely outmatched. Their offense was already a tad shaky and now losing what is probably their number 2 scorer (he looked rocked coming off the field) they are going to have to find someone else to compliment their top shooter. I still like them as a team (and am admittedly a fan) but they need to work some things out between now and the playoffs. I can’t help but think the hot start had them overconfident and maybe this game will be a ride awakening for the team.

Wow we found the one non toxic Mclean fan on here. Props to you man, you’re a diamond in the rough.

2. Battlefield- Hadn’t seen much from them but now I have. They DOMINATED Mclean much more than the score showed.
3. Freedom SR- Cannot wait for them and Battlefield to get after it.
4. Langley- They continue to stack wins after their overblown slow start.
5. Madison- They really need to get healthy, do believe they’re top 2/3 when they have their guys.
6. Yorktown- What a win for the boys in sky blue. They are the last of 6 true contenders IMO.
7. Mclean- Little bit of a wake up call the past couple weeks. L to Langley, narrow win over Herndon, and then were not that competitive vs Battlefield. Still the best of the rest, but not the powerhouse I thought they might be.
8. Cosby- They are clearly good enough to stay with Langley, and that’s good enough to let them have the 8 spot.
9. Hayfield- Undefeated, couple decent wins, that’s all it takes to get 9 these days.
10. Oakton- Hello again old friends. Finally figured out how to win again, even if it’s not pretty. In all honesty, this should probably be West Pos spot but I haven’t seen them play.

Oakton is a 4 or 5 seed in their own conference. Maybe 1 quality win, multiple bad losses. Guess we are ranking on what we hope they could be not what they actually are. Other teams have haduch harder schedule and performed the same.

Who that’s ranked below them? I already acknowledged west po. Enlighten me

Chantilly, Woodson, South Lakes, Patriot.

Also agree with OP, Oakton beat 2 of those teams already. Patriot deserves a shout as well, but their best win was south lakes. West Pos best wins are South County and I guess Lake Braddock? Oakton got a couple wins this week, they are ranked appropriately.

As a Langley father, my son has not stopped expressing to me how bad he thinks this game between McLean and Yorktown is going to be. In his words, “it will be a s*** show”

Your son was lucky to make it out of the Yorktown game with a win, and for the record I believe Langley does NOT wanna see Yorktown again and would much rather play McLean.

Sorry, you can’t lose to Westfield and South Lakes (probably in the 15-20 range) and be in the top-10. WestPo’s only losses are to Top-5 schools.

You are not a Langley parent. Stop trolling. No Langley parent would come here and post comments like this. McLean-Yorktown game will be a great matchup between two respectable teams.

Agree. Whoever posted this doesn’t remember that the McLean-Langley game was back and forth to the very end when McLean let in an easy goal because their D had to be overly aggressive to try and get the ball back as time was running out in a one point game. If those teams played 100 times they would probably each win 50.

This may be a little off topic but I wanted to address my son’s concerns. My son is a brawny Langley junior varsity player (go Saxons!) And my son informed me about some unsavory language being produced my the mouths of many McLean lacrosse players. When I say unsavory I mean vehemently homophobic, racist, and crude remarks targeted at opposing players. I’m considering bringing up this misconduct in other VHSL, any thoughts of advice?

Also a little off topic but I noticed that number 4 on Yorktown has a 5% shooting percentage. What’s up with that?

This is very immature behavior. Dcurbanmom will never be the same after being the first person to bring stats into this madness. Shame on you. Number 4 is actually very sweet pookie bear and tries his best!

I am so tired of hearing this kind of thing... I wish it would stop across the board...

I would reach out to their main office in Charlottesville.

Although I do not support players on this forum as it is strictly for parents and fans alike, I am pleased that Yorktown players are sticking up for each other. This kind of brotherhood is why we love the medicine game!

Week 7 -2024 VA Boys Class 6 Rankings

1. Robinson (11-0)

Results: Def. Fairfax 19-3, Def. Woodson 23-9, Def. Stone Bridge 11-7

Analysis: Robinson started the week very strong with wins over Fairfax and Woodson. But on Saturday they had a very close game against a bad Stone Bridge team. Following Saturday we were close to giving Freedom South Riding the number 1 spot nod, however they are high school kids and are allowed to have a bad day. I expect them to learn from the game and easily win out the rest of the year. Coming up they do have a Lake Braddock team who two years ago ended their state championship dreams out of nowhere, although this Braddock team still has good players they are not the same and probably won't be able to keep it close.

Quality Wins: Madison, Yorktown, McLean, Langley
Decent Wins: West Potomac, South County
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/25 @ Lake Braddock, 4/27 vs. Cosby

2. Freedom South Riding (10-0)

Results: Def. Unity Reed 20-2, Def. Patriot 10-8

Analysis: A blowout win against a bad Unity Reed team does not say much, however the close game does say a ton. We were surprised by the way the Eagles came out and played a very average Patriot team close. Because of this close game we thought about dropping them but their undefeated record and earlier win are very strong.

Quality Wins: Riverside, Briar Woods
Decent Wins: Patriot
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/15 vs. Gainesville, 4/18 vs. Oakton, 4/18 @ Battlefield

3. Langley (8-3)

Results: Def. Marshall 21-1, Def. Wakefield 20-2, Def. Cosby 9-6

Analysis: Another solid week for the Saxons. Started the week in blowout fashion against two bad teams within their district, further solidifying their 1 seed in the Liberty District. On Saturday against a strong Region A foe the Saxons were able to defeat Cosby in solid fashion generally controlling the whole way through. Coming up the Saxons have two games back to back days against two decent teams look for them to win those pretty easily and likely not lose again this regular season.

Quality Wins: Yorktown, McLean, Cosby
Decent Wins: None
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/17 vs. Sidwell Friends, 4/27 vs. South Lakes (@ South County)

4. Battlefield (7-0)

Results: Def. Gainesville 15-4, Def. Fauquier 17-4, Def. Osbourn Park 16-0, Def. McLean 11-8

Analysis: After a crazy week Battlefield comes out with 4 more wins including a great one against McLean on saturday. Battlefield started the week with 3 easy blowout wins before facing a solid McLean squad on Saturday, while the score may seem close the Highlanders slotted 3 right at the end of the game making look much closer than it was. This coming week look for Battlefield to cruise through Osbourn before a tough against Patriot who has been playing well and another decent one against Westfield.

Quality Wins: Briar Woods, McLean
Decent Wins: Independence
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/22 @ Osbourn, 4/25 @ Patriot, 4/27 @ Westfield

5. Yorktown (6-4)

Results: Lost to Heights 10-11 (OT), Def. WakeField 17-4, Def. Broadneck 11-7

Analysis: Yorktown just finished a huge week, starting with another OT loss to a strong Heights team, they then crushed district foe Wakefield. Then on Saturday the Patriots shocked many in fairly handily defeating a Broadneck team who crushed both Langley and Madison. Yorktown with another big one against Mclean this week, with a likely win they will secure the number two seed and a home game in the Liberty district tournament.

Quality Wins: Broadneck
Decent Wins: Oakton, Patriot
Quality Losses: Robinson, Madison, Langley, Heights

This Week: 4/25 vs. McLean, 4/29 @ Washington-Liberty,

6. Madison (5-5)

Results: Def. Woodson 16-3,

Analysis: Madison was without many games this week. In the game they did played they had an impressive win over a decent Woodson team. Coming up Madison has an important game against Concorde distinct opponent Oakton, and later another solid team in Patriot. However we expect our projection from last week to continue and Madison to finish 9-5 and #1 seed in the Concorde District.

Quality Wins: Yorktown
Decent Wins: West Potomac, Chantilly
Quality Losses: Riverside, Severna Park, Atlee

This Week: 4/25 vs. Oakton, 4/27 vs. Patriot

7. Cosby (4-2)

Results: Def. Clover Hill 17-2, Lost to Langley 9-6

Analysis: Cosby started off the week with an easy blowout win over a terrible Clover Hill team. They then traveled up to South County where they lost to a good Langley team 9-6, we decided to move them up over McLean because we think their loss to Langley isn’t as bad as Mclean loss to Battlefield and a close game against Herndon. Coming up Cosby has a chance to bounce back when they play Robinson this coming Saturday.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: None
Quality Losses: Atlee, Langley

This Week: 4/22 vs. Glen Allen, 4/27 vs. Robinson (@ South County)

8. McLean (9-3)

Results: Def. Herndon 9-6, Def. Marshall 14-0, Lost to Battlefield 11-8

Analysis: Mclean had a very disappointing week even with 2 wins. To start their week they played a pretty bad Herndon team extremely close, following that they had an easy win over Marshall before losing a game to Battlefield which was not as close as the score indicates. McLean has a huge one this week against Yorktown and a big chance for them to bounce back before playoff start.

Quality Wins: Sidwell Friends
Decent Wins: Chantilly, Woodson
Quality Losses: Robinson, Langley, Battlefield

This Week: 4/25 @ Yorktown, 4/27 vs Lake Braddock (@ Westfield)

9. Hayfield (9-0)

Results: Def. Falls Church 20-3, Def. Edison 13-3

Analysis: Hayfield again picked up another two wins against poor opponents last week. Again we are not yet sold on them as a serious contender come May, but we don’t want to discredit them too much as they still are undefeated which is somewhat impressive given their schedule. Coming up and to finish their year they have two more terrible teams so we won't get to see Hayfield play a really solid contender for a while.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Chantilly
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 4/25 vs. Mount Vernon

10. West Potomac (7-4)

Results: Def. Alexandria City 16-5, Def. Northern Calvert 12-11, Def. Lake Braddock 9-7

Analysis: After barely making the rankings last week, West Potomac has solidified their spot this week with two very big wins. We were on West Potomac last week about letting in too many goals and this week the defense stepped up big time. They started their week with an easy win over Alexandria City, then a big win over a solid Maryland team in Northern Calvert, and finished the week with a win over Lake Braddock. As of right now any team not currently in the top 10 will need to make some major moves and West Potomac some major losses for a change.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: South County, Lake Braddock, Northern Calvert
Quality Losses: Madison

This Week: 4/25 vs. West Springfield

Also Considered: Lake Braddock, Woodson, Oakton, Patriot, South County, Chantilly, Deep Run
