Disney World's first responders once backed Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida's plan to assume control of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which had autonomous control over the land that Disney occupied.

"Anything has got to be better than what we currently have," Tim Stromsnes, the communications director of the Reedy Creek Professional Firefighters Local 2117 union, told the Orlando Sentinel in January.

But now firefighters are having second thoughts after the new oversight board moved to strip them of special Disney perks they've had for decades. Last week, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, the rebranded Reedy Creek board, revoked all of the firefighters' free passes to the Disney parks and resorts. First responders told the Miami Times this made visits to the theme park unaffordable.

"The removal of this benefit takes away, for some, their entire reason for working here," a firefighter named Pete Simon told the Miami Times.

A number of firefighters confronted DeSantis' new board at a monthly meeting last Wednesday about the free passes and what they meant for them and their families. They said in the meeting the discounts afforded to them by Disney were a major reason they chose to work there, the Miami Times reported.

Most of the firefighters benefited because they got money instead of a pass they didn't use. You would have to go 10 times a year for an annual pass to be worthwhile.
The ones who lose out are the ones who took their kids and got multiple free passes.

Sure go ahead and lecture the firefighters about what they should want.

The stats were revealed at the board meeting.

Disney lost the federal case. People on this forum assured us that Disney has great lawyers and would stomp DeSantis.
Next up they will lose the state case, which at this point they are hoping to delay in hopes of electing Democrats who will give them back their special privileges.

Disney will appeal this case, and there are more cases in the pipeline.

Trump judge made this call so of course it's wrong.

Disney is broke? Have you told them this?

The article I saw yesterday said the case against DeSantis was dismissed. He’s been trying to get his name off the case.

Freely admitting you hate the Constitution is the look you’re going for?

It’s gonna be appealed

All the cases were dismissed. Which means taking everything Disney said as true, they still hadn't made a valid claim that could be judged by a jury.
Technically, DeSantis and the Secretary of State were dismissed without prejudice, so Disney could bring a new case, but DeSantis was only in there because Disney wanted headlines of Disney vs DeSantis.

They can try, but the ruling is Disney didn't make a valid claim. Their lawyers were not from Florida and didn't understand Florida law, and gave Disney bad advice. They should have had the Reedy Creek board when it still existed filing cases, but again that require knowing Florida law and would not serve the political goals of pleasing liberals around the country.

So would I, but it will be a crapshoot. Trump appointed 1/3 of the 11th Circuit Justices.

Disnery has dropped its case and Florida has dropped its countersuit.

The special sweetheart deal that Disney arranged at the 11th hour that gave Disney total control until the death of the last descendant of Charles Vi has been declared null and void.
Reedy Creek board is still gone. CFTOD board appointed by DeSantis is still there and controlling the district in which Disney resides.
Loss to Disney is in the billion in not having the special (illegal)privileges they had for decades, all because Victoria Alonso lectured Bob Chapek and insisted he speak out against Florida laws she disliked.
