I just watched A Perfect Story on Netflix based on the recommendations on this thread - I'd give it a 5.
My recs are The Wedding Date, 10 Things I Hate About You, Love & Basketball, Dirty Dancing, Moonstruck, Say Anything, Princess Bride (random assortment). For an oldie but goodie, The Way We Were (sigh!). |
I like your style. 10/10 would recommend. |
A movie can have both comedy and romance in it and not be a rom-com! It's a specific genre. Things like Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing, Say Anything, 500 Days of Summer, or the Birdcage are not rom-coms! |
Amelie! |
10 Things I Hate About You |
Before We Go (Chris Evans) |
Juliet Naked |
Grosse point blank was cute |
Love and Basketball is the best. So good. Not as much of a com as the bolded but such a good romance. |
The Matchmaker. A rom-com with Jeanine Garofalo where she is sent to Ireland to find the ancestors of a Boston politician. |
I LOVE this movie. however if you are thinking about seeing it with your teen daughter or son be aware the first scene is a very explicit oral sex scene. Which is a bummer because I am dying to watch this with my 15 year old son but not sure we can get past that first scene.... |
I second this. I love second chances movies. |
Sweet home Alabama |
French Kiss (1990s). Meg Ryan plays an anxious American, and Kevin Kline pulls off a full French accent and amazing facial hair. |
Oh yes, that was my first thought when I saw this recommendation. I *LOVE* Sliding Doors but it is definitely not a capital R Romance - the ending is too ambiguous. (Similarly, Last Christmas, on Netflix this year, certainly looked like a RomCom from the preview/summary I saw, but it is NOT. I started watching it while wrapping presents and my husband found me near the end just bawling. Amazing movie, but not a RomCom.) |
