10 things I hate about you turned 25 years old this week |
Are we just giving up on the "lesser known" part of the question, then? |
Because I Said So |
Is that the Canadian Anne? Loved that one as a kid. Not sure I'd call it a rom com, but it did have romance when they get into the later books and funny moments. More a coming of age saga, perhaps? Or a family drama? I love the familial love between Marilla and Matthew and the love that grows between each of them and Anne. |

Still want "lesser known"? Movie from 2017, "Wild Honey." Not sure if it's the kind of "rom com" you're looking for, OP, but I love it. Rusty Schwimmer (fantastic actress) plays a middle-aged woman who works taking calls for a phone sex line. pretending to be a baby-voiced sexpot; one particular caller, who actually wants to converse, piques her interest and she goes to meet him. Complications Ensue. I admit to being biased because the gentlemanly caller is played by Timothy Omundson and I'd watch him read the phone book, but the whole cast is good, and it's wonderful to see a female lead who is not in her 20s, not rail-thin and model-pretty, and not a Hallmark romance type or a 1990s romcom queen. (No offense to the romcom queens, it's just nice to see someone quite different!) Trailer's here: https://www.imdb.com/video/vi987281945/?ref_=tt_vi_i_1 |
Forgot to say -- re: above "Wild Honey" -- it streams on Tubi, Plex, Vudu, Roku Channel, a few others, and is free on some of them, and a few bucks on others. There are a few movies with the same title; this is the 2017 one directed by Francis Stokes. |
Not really a comedy but a nice romance-- August Rush. |
+1 to this! |
