Anyone have their child attend University of Florida in recent years?

What have been your pros and cons of University of Florida? Is your child happy at UF and has your child had any trouble getting a job/internship in the DMV? My child is seriously considering the school. The school was originally #2 on the list, but has now tied for #1 after going to Florida Days (admitted students day). Just loved the vibe so much. Our main concern is that it is so far away and that there are no direct flights to Gainesville. Also, with all of these college protests, I wonder how it will affect UF (which I believe is the most liberal of the Florida schools).

Also, wondering about the job opportunities in the DMV for UF grads.

Someone in another thread posted a good explanation about the online business classes- basically, not exactly as bad as you think. If you do a search, you will probably find it.

God no, DeSantis has ruined the state and its schools.

I had 3 children attend UF. One is currently still there. They loved it. As for placement after undergrad, DD is in medical school, DD2 is working at a FAANG and DS is still in school with a great summer internship lined up. Great academics, great school spirit, great athletics, great weather, reasonable cost and great outcomes. Go Gators!!!

UF is hosting a 1200 student Seder tonight for Passover. So, there’s that.

A huge group of Gator Nation gathers in the DMV to watch football and engage in other events, so there's a network up here for UF grads.

A lot will depend upon their major, of course, and also on their ability to network. Sometimes, as you know, it's not just about connecting directly with a UF grad but also who they can introduce you to in the area. Yet with so many UF graduates in the DC area, your student will likely have many connections that can be made up here.

Yes, the lack of direct flights is annoying. But also, there are only two gates at the airport and it's VERY fast to get through security! And you sometimes see famous people on the plane after they've been to speak at UF.

Who knew anti-semitism was a choice that needed feckless, dangerous university “leadership” to foster and fertilize? With Ben Sasse at UF’s helm, I imagine it will emerge as a preeminent choice for many students and their parents.

Wow- I had no idea that there was a Gator Nation community in the DMV! Is there a Facebook group?

That's so good to know especially for the gators that want to return to the DMV after school- just nice to know that there is a decent alumni network here.
