Are you the same person who keeps posting these types of threads over and over again?
Why?

Not sure which post you're referring too but posting this first time to pick potential school and interested to hear others opinion.

“in the US.” Where are you writing from? Clearly not the US.

“top elite” as opposed to “bottom elite”? Look up redundant and, please, spare us these insipid threads.

any ivy league, Stanford, MIT, Cal Tech, Duke, Chicago, Northwestern, Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, Pomona.

Below that non-ivies could be Hopkins, Georgetown, UVA, Michigan, and Cal Berkley. State schools by definition are less prestigious.

The most elite colleges and universities in the US typically have the largest endowment funds. For example, the five most elite universities in the US have the 5 largest endowment funds: Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, & Princeton.

It's not like that here. This is a very large country with thousands of colleges, many of which are just too expensive for most people to attend, no matter the reputation. Also money and reputation tend to go hand in hand here, so elite usually isn't about academic quality.

The vast majority of students, even top students, will attend schools near home. Each state has its own hierarchy too. Many small private colleges are better than some state schools at the top of their lists, some niche colleges are significantly better for certain areas of study than even "brand name" colleges, etc.

If you want schools for the rich and famous (but not necessarily academic super stars -- though each of those schools requires some academic superstars to report in their well-massages stats), the standard lists from this site will serve your purpose.

For what major? Or do you not actually care about academics and teaching quality?

Great point. I think just getting a bigger picture but totally agree with your points that there are many options and finance also plays a big factor.

x100000 OP wants posters to argue about the same specific schools, as always.
