Cost of Vietnam Trip

Anonymous
How much would you expect to budget for a 2 week trip to Vietnam for a family of 7?

Anonymous
Completely depends on your travel style. Some people travel on a shoestring budget, others only to 5 star resorts.

You need to give more detail on what level of luxury you want and what you will be doing during the two weeks. Travelling around the country? What ages are the 7 people?

We did an amazing trip with National Geographic family tours and the cost was under $3k pp, almost all-inclusive (minus a few dinners and inexpensive activities). We are a family of 5. Unfortunately the flights there cost as much or more than the trip. We had 13 days in Vietnam and 3 in Cambodia. It was an amazing trip and we traveled all over.

What poster above said---depends on your travel style and budget. Someone I follow on Instagram (ashley cambell) traveled the world for a year with her family of 7 and did it all on a budget. I can bet they spend less per month than most people in this area spend on a week long spring break trip

Wait, the trip cost 30k for 5 people?

That was my first thought! 16 day trip 30,000 is $1875 per day for a family of 5. Or $375 a day per person.

So if there are 7 members in OP’s family that would be $2625 a day and for 16 days- $42,000.

Pretty much. 16 days is a long time, it inclined all internal flights and transfers, lodging (4* hotels), activities and most food.

LOL.. 40 K to go to Vietnam, even for 16 days is insane. Food is insanely cheap there, unless you only eat tourist food.

We've traveled to Taiwan, over Christmas break for 2 weeks for a quarter of this price.

heck we have done Maui for 12days a LOT less than this($15K)

You realize that a huge portion of the cost is the airfare right?

you have to work hard to spend that much in vietnam.

Vietnam is extremely cheap! You definitely do not need to spend $30k LOL. That sounds like pp got taken for a tourist tax... rip off.

I havent travelled all over vietnam, but I went to Hanoi, stayed in old quarter and absolutely loved it. Did a 1 day trip to ha long bay (most places do an overnight, 1-2 nights on the boat, but DH gets sea sick and we didnt have a ton of time). The day tour, which picked us up/dropped off, private boat and lunch was $400 for two. Hotel in Hanoi was <$200 for 3 days, 4* hotel. Flew to Da Nang (flight was $135 pp) Hotel was again <$200 for 3 nights, ocean front. Food was plentiful and cheap. Like trays of seafood for $5, pho/bun cha $2, beers $2. There are luxury places to eat, but we stuck to the local places, night markets especially.

This trip was Tokyo, Taipei, Hanoi, Da Nang, Seoul so kind of a whirlwind trip. But Vietnam was by far the cheapest for what we got. For reference, we spent $160 on our first day in Tokyo for food, and I think we spent less than that for all food the week in vietnam.

Flights are not THAT expensive unless they flew business class, which maybe they did, but if not then they overspent on everything else while there.

We paid $2800pp for a 16-night tour that included all internal flights and transportation, hotels, food, guides and activities. That’s $175pp/day which is really not a lot even for Vietnam. We went to Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang and HCMC. The plane tickets were almost $3k each because that is what the cost for decently timed flights with only one stop on a good airline in the end of December.
We did price out doing the trip without the tour and it wasn’t really cheaper plus we would have to do all the logistics ourselves. This trip was SO easy and I would definitely pay a premium for ease when dealing with travel in places like Vietnam.

The biggest expense will be plane tickets. Everything else can be done super cheaply, unless you’re staying at the four seasons or something. Food is inexpensive, as is transportation within the country. We rented a van and driver for a week in Thailand for a group of 8 (two families) and it cost us $80 total.
