There are also only two coaches/teams for boys U14, when the boys U13 has four coaches/teams and boys U15 has three. I find that strange. Why so many more players one year compared to the next year up.

Boys U14/2011 has had a really uncompetitive third team that they have struggled to roster players on (someone posted about that team earlier in the thread), so a lot of turnover with kids leaving. Not sure why that age group had been so problematic. Maybe they only expect enough for two teams.

They possibly know there isn't enough interest for a 3rd team.

Currently only a handful (4-5 or so) of the 3rd team show up for games. 1st and 2nd team boys are playing (especially since 1st team has no games this spring as previously discussed).

Cannot imagine there will be enough to field more than 2 teams this fall.

Its crazy to me that people pay those very high fees and then their kid just doesn't show up for the games.

Interesting. Where did the open slots come
from in non-expansion years? Did they
move kids down?

We have seen similar in our DC’s age group. I only know what has happened with the top two teams. A couple of kids had been playing up an age group and went down the following year to play with their own age. A couple other kids left to focus on other sports. One went to another club. And yes kids have been moved down and others moved up. I think Valor could do a better job evaluating players at tryouts. It took a while for the team placements to be fully settled and mostly correct. But if you’re lucky, the coaches in your DC’s age group stay in frequent communication and make adjustments as needed. I imagine some of the problems are happening in age groups where the coaches of the different teams don’t talk to each other much.

What didn't you like about the tryout process?

He was a little slow but they offered him a spot on the 2nd team.

It was brave of him to stick his neck out like that.
Hopefully the social aspect of the new team will bring him out of his shell.

Too much scrimmaging and not enough drills. But that’s probably true at a lot of clubs. I’ve seen one club focus more on drills, but it was a smaller club. Fewer kids is easier to manage in drills.

2011 kids had covid lockdowns happening around when most would have started travel, so only two teams were formed initially. The 2011 third team has only existed the past two years. The first year the team had barely enough players to field a team and depended on white team guest players most weeks to be able to play. That's probably why they ended with a .500 record to be honest. The coach is leaving after this spring. Maybe they'll get enough new rec players to replace the ones that leave, TBD. My guess is they probably won't find a coach until they know for sure.

He was a bit shell shocked that he only made the 2nd team given the level of play at tryouts.

Well this is just a little sneak peak at how valor works.......no drills just scrimmages......
