Valor

If you live i Chantilly/Centreville/Fairfax/Herndon area of Fairfax county is a very respectable option. Quality of the teams vary by age group. Coaches and staff are professional and friendly. I. Similar to any other travel club in NoVA.

I guess you didn't hear what happened to DS at VRSC?

He's the best.

I haven't heard anything much good about it, and my kids do CYA sports so we have known a lot of kids who have done Valor. Most move on to other clubs. Complaints we have heard:

1. they take everyone who tries out--everyone-- and most of the teams are just rec-level talent. they just make more teams.

2. the low level teams have unqualified/ignorant coaches

3. the price is really high

4. coaches with multiple teams combine practices and most of the practices are just scrimmages with no skill work

5. Really hard to move up from the lower teams once they know you are a dummy who will pay for 3rd/4th/5th team

6. Always trying to increase revenue, strong-arm kids to do camps (soccer academy camp is a private business run by one of the head valor guys and of course is not included in travel fees); discourage younger players from doing other sports even in winter which is not age appropriate.

Its like a soccer factory pyramid scheme. Only the top or maybe the second team in most age groups are truly club level.

My youngest played in their subpar spring all star recreational tournament which was just a money grab with no effort at all in putting on an enjoyable tournament, and they had super hideous South of the Border themed medals. The vibe was "rec soccer is a joke so we have joke-y medals". Really insulting to the rec soccer kids (why a travel club was running a rec tournament in the first place was mystery to me, but our club won't participate again this spring because it was so lame).

So my takeaway was they are money-grubbers and tacky as hell.

We played one of their little girls teams and there was a coach with a Scottish (?) accent-a middle aged guy--who was just berating the kids. It was gross.

If you show up for tryouts and that's the coach, just turn around and leave.

I don't think their price is much different than other clubs. Other clubs tend to show club dues without team fees and at most other clubs once you've added it all together you basically are at what Valor charges. Valor just shows the all in price from the beginning it looks like.

No dog in this fight but everything negative being said about Valor can literally be said about any club in the area.

Not the south of the border medals though, that is certainly something new.

We tried out for Valor and Burke. Burke was significantly cheaper (I think it was $1200 less) at the younger ages. No idea on the older ages.

You can't post about Pedro medals without showing a pic of the Pedro medals!

It's a dumb theme. Why are they running tournaments for rec kids anyway?
