VA Union / MYS had senior day this weekend. Very impressive (my DD plays for Union but isn’t a senior). Seniors committed to play at:

Brown
Penn
UVA
Amherst
Williams
Georgia
Howard (x 2)

And more. The junior class is even more impressive with commits to Columbia, UCLA, FSU, Penn State, UVA, Navy, Wisconsin…

And notice that these teams are making playoffs but not necessarily #1 or even #3 in their divisions. So it’s not just about the wins.

Gotta be Bethesda - but it’s because at U18 many top players have their teams fall apart. Bethesda will make a competitive team with one call from a D1 coach. They gather these players like Fagan gathering watches from Oliver and his friends.

Funny, nobody realizes many of these commits are either zero money/walk on and also parent donations. McLean, FCV, Bethesda and even Loudoun all have players in these situations. Many will never see real minutes their entire time in college at the competitive P4 schools.

Sometimes it’s not about the Coach’s contacts and more about who the parents know.

Smart families will take better offers at smaller academic schools, even DIII. Those kids will get minutes and an excellent undergrad degree.

After paying $30k in travel / ECNL fees and another $10k per year on travel to tournaments and games, none of these parents are looking for scholarships. They’re looking for a foot in the door of a good college. It is really really hard to get into an Ivy or some of these schools from the DMV without an angle.

Lol! If my kid gets into Penn because she’s recruited for soccer you think I’d prefer to send her to a DIII school instead so she can get more playing time at a DIII? That’s funny.

She can always drop soccer after her sophomore year of sitting on the bench and be a walk-on on the squash team as a player-manager who never plays.

It isn't about what YOU want though, is it? Well, perhaps with you it is all about what you want. It should be what your kid wants.

Maybe she doesn't want to show up at the weight room at 5 a.m., lift then run then go to class, study, practice, study then go to bed and not get five minutes of playing time for four years. She might want a good education and get to be a valuable part of the team for her efforts.

And don't try telling us it's what she wants. You already told us it's about you and what you want. I think most of us know what time it is with parents/people like yourself.

Why is that funny? If she’s recruited but doesn’t get money, hell yes!

That said, personally I would rather pay out the ass for Penn regardless, but I don’t think most parents are crazy like me.

My barista at compass coffee in DC went to Penn. She said it's a great school.

Well "the old" FCV sent two to Penn few years who both were starters last fall. So I'm thinking they are not paying full tuition and they are still getting the Penn education.
