Wednesday's Most Active Posts
Trouble making friends, video recording, bargain colleges, and an affair were the topics with the most engagement yesterday.
The thread that led in both views and replies yesterday was titled, "Everyone's Too Busy to Be Friends" and posted in the "Elementary School-Aged Kids" forum. I am not sure this is the correct forum since the original post seems to deal with adult friends. So, I may move this thread eventually. The original poster describes a fairly common scenario. Her family has recently moved to the area and other families that she meets are too busy to get together. She is asking for advice about how to make friends. I skimmed the thread and it looked like there was a lot of advice offered, as well as many posters describing being in the same boat (they should have a meet-up). I notice that almost anytime someone describes a struggle they are having, someone will show up to post about how they don't have that issue, but not offer any helpful advice. I'm not sure of the purpose of such posts which don't seem to have a malicious intent, but basically pile on and add to the original poster's misery. This thread had just such a poster who, to put it mildly, didn't receive a very warm welcome. That poster certainly didn't make any friends in this thread.
A thread titled, "Shouldn’t self-checkout screens state you are being recorded before you begin scanning?" was second in number of replies yesterday. The thread, which was posted in the "Off-Topic" forum, was fifth in number of views. The original poster describes being at the self-checkout at Giant and discovering that she was being video recorded. She was surprised that there wasn't a warning that the recording was going on. I haven't read this thread other than glancing at a couple of posts. Personally, I would almost rather not know I was being recorded because that would make me self-conscious. But, I see the poster's point. Other posters were less sympathetic it appears. Also, somehow the thread diverted to discussing the lawsuit involving McDonald's coffee being too hot. I am not sure how the thread got there, but since I don't plan to read it that will probably always remain a mystery.
The thread that was third in both replies and views was titled, "Affordable schools (snobs, stay out of here)" and posted in the "College and University Discussion" forum. The original poster lists a few colleges or universities that have affordable prices and/or generous financial aid. She asks other posters to add to the list. I have a child currently in the college application process so this thread is interesting to me. However, I haven't read it yet other than skimming through it. I see that some suggestions have been offered, but many of the posts are, instead, simply criticizing schools that have been mentioned. As is true of many threads in the college forum these days, there is a debate about access to women's healthcare. I understand why that might be a consideration when picking a college, but I'm not sure it needs to be mentioned in every thread, especially this one. Nevertheless, this thread might provide some useful leads for those looking for college bargains.
Threads about affairs are common in the "Relationship Discussion (non-explicit)" forum and a thread in that forum titled, "Contacted by stranger saying my spouse had affair" was second in views and fourth in replies yesterday. The original post has a bit of a twist in that the male original poster was contacted by another man claiming that their female wives had had an affair, causing an end to the other marriage. The original poster is unsure whether to confront his wife or ignore it. Skimming over the replies, I see a variety of advice being offered though much of it is contradictory. It seems that many posters — including the original poster — see the alleged affair as less consequential since it involved another woman rather than a man. There is also a dispute about whether women are capable of providing useful advice to the original poster with a poster (or posters) urging the original poster to ignore advice that isn't from a man. This thread may fall victim to our advertising networks' adult content policies and have to be removed at some point. But, unless/until that happens, it is there for your viewing pleasure.
