Tuesday's Most Active Threads

Subjects include "DCUM Regulars", cheaters getting caught, Duke, Harvard, or Princeton, and plans to encourage Black homeownership.

Yesterday one thread ran away with the lead in most replies, getting more than twice the number as the next in line. The thread, titled, "'Regulars' of DCUM" in the "Off-Topic" forum also led in number of views. Clocking in at a whopping 18 pages in less than a day, the thread starts off as a discussion about posters whose frequency and style of posts makes them recognizable as DCUM personalities.

For years there has been a recurring tendency on DCUM of posters starting threads that take nostalgic looks back at threads from the past. These might be the funniest threads, most renown threads, or any other factor that might lead to a sort of greatest hits list. Yesterdays's thread was a variation of the theme, focused on posters who have stood out in some manner. Obviously, this is difficult on a website on which most users are anonymous, but over time some frequent users do become recognizable by their writing style. Many of the posts in this thread went on tangents dealing with specific threads from the past and/or recurring phrases that are overused or memorable rather than renown posters

Second in both replies and views yesterday was a thread in the "Relationship Discussion (non-explicit)" titled, "How did you discover your DH or DW was cheating on you?" that managed 8 pages of replies. I haven't read this thread beyond glancing at the first page and responding to a couple of reports of posts that crossed over into explicit territory. Based on what I saw, there are a number of unexpected ways to catch a cheater. Technology seems to have tripped up quite a few who unintentionally revealed their cheating through technical mishaps.

Third in number of replies and fourth in number of views was a thread titled, "Help DS Decide: Duke ED or Harvard/Princeton REA" in the "College and University Discussion" forum. I only skimmed the first page of this thread which discusses the original poster's concerns about her son's plans for college applications. At least on the first page, most responders recommended Duke. As the parent of a University of Maryland student, I will withhold comment.

A thread titled, "I'm a non-black DC native - Bowser's Black home ownership effort seems kinda racist" posted in the "Metropolitan DC Local Politics" forum was also among the top threads in both replies and views. The topic of the thread is a plan announced by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser to increase Black homeownership by 20,000 homeowners by 2030. The orignal poster of the thread believes that the plan is racist and nationalist. In general, any thread involving race on DCUM is a pre-ordained dumpster fire, but this one didn't immediately burst into flames. Responses ranged from those agreeing with the original poster, to those concurring that the plan was discriminatory but justified due to past discrimination, and to those who disagreed entirely. Without specific details of Bowser's plans, I am not sure how the posters are coming to their conclusions, but in threads such as these facts are normally not an obstacle in any case.
