Wednesday's Top Threads

Having a baby when you have teenagers, a Sanibel Island VRBO rental, a gay cartoon character, and Boston top the list for engagement.

Yesterday's threads with the most engagement spanned a range of topics. Leading in number of replies was a thread titled, "What would be your personal response to a pregnancy at age 47 when you have teens?" in the "Tweens and Teens" forum. The original poster of the thread apparently has a friend in this situation. Many posters responded saying that they would terminate such a pregnancy. Discussion dealt both on what would be best for a child born in such circumstances and what would be best for the parents. I've noticed that the broader topic frequently described as "advanced maternal age" is very much a hot button issue in the forums, which probably explains some of the interest in this thread.

Second in number of replies but first in number of views was a thread in the "Travel Discussion" forum titled, "VRBO won't refund Sanibel stay for next week". I was not aware of this thread until just now, but apparently the original poster had a VRBO reservation for a condo on Sanibel Island. Thanks to Hurricane Ian, it is not possible for the original poster to access the island, but the condo owner is refusing a refund. A quick skim of the thread reveals lots of very helpful "you should have had insurance" and "it's stupid to book vacations during hurricane season" type of replies. Many responders suggested disputing the charge with the credit card issuer. I was surprised by the number of posters who thought the original poster should pay in full.

The thread that was third in number of views was another one that I didn't know about until just now. Posted in the "Entertainment and Pop Culture" forum and titled, "Velma is new Scooby-Doo Halloween movie identifies as LGBQT" was started by a poster upset about the sexual orientation of a cartoon character. You couldn't pay me enough to read this thread so, if the topic interests you, you will have to read it yourself.

The fourth most active thread was titled "Boston — why do educated white people in the dmv not like it?" was posted in the "Off-Topic" forum. Once again, I have not read this thread. Since my entire knowledge of Boston comes from listening to Dropkick Murphys songs, I was surprised to hear that people such as myself don't like it. I actually have positive feelings about the city and would like to visit sometime. But with seven pages of responses I assume that some folks do have reasons for not liking but I'm not going to read it to find out.
