This Weekend's Most Active Threads
The threads with the most engagement over the weekend. Topics include stereotypes, Halloween, Lizzo, and friendship.
Today I'll take a look at the most active threads over the weekend. There were four threads that stood out above the rest in the number of replies they received. The topics addressed a range of subjects including stereotypes, Halloween, Lizzo, and friendship.
Posted in the "Off-Topic" forum, a thread titled, "Have you ever been stereotyped?" led in the number of replies. I briefly glanced at this thread and had to remove a couple of inappropriate posts that were reported, but otherwise don't know that much about it. As best as I can tell, just about everyone believes that they have been stereotyped in one way or another.
This time of the year always brings out a lot of Halloween-related threads and one such thread titled, "Halloween is already The Thing. We don’t need ‘Boo baskets,’ trunk or treat, other dumb stuff" was second in the number of replies received this weekend. I haven't read this thread — which was posted in the "Off-Topic" forum — at all and, therefore, can't comment on it. But, based on other Halloween-inspired threads that I have read, I am amazed that this is such a controversial holiday. In my opinion, people are seriously overthinking this.
Third in the number of responses but first in number of views was a thread titled, "I don’t care about Lizzo playing the flute but" in the "Entertainment and Pop Culture". I dont' know if the original poster was simply being flippant, hadn't given the topic much thought, or simply is a bit tone deaf, but her take on the topic of Lizzo playing a flute owned by the Library of Congress that previously belonged to James Madison was to argue that Ian Anderson should also be allowed to play the flute. Given that Anderson is a 75-year-old Scottish white man compared to the 34-year-old, Black and female, Detroit native Lizzo, this thread might have been the perfect troll attempt. Several posters leaped to Lizzo's defense while a few detractors complained about various aspects of event. The thread did raise one philosophical question: is a person wearing flesh-colored leotards naked or wearing pants?
The fourth thread among the top performers over the weekend was titled, "How happy do you need to be for your friend to be a 'good friend'" and was posted in the "Relationship Discussion (non-explicit)". I have not read the 8-page thread beyond the first post which describes the original poster's reaction to her friend's good news. While the author stresses that she tried to demonstrate her genuine happiness for her friend, her response was impacted by difficulties in her own life. Her friend later called her out for being envious and down on her life. Not having read the replies, I don't know how things went but I hope the OP received good advice and didn't end up feeling even worse about her life.
