Phonological Awareness and Early Phonics Skills We ensure all students, regardless of skill, receive reading instruction based on the Science of Reading - an 'important for all' but 'vital for some' approach. We'll cover exactly what phonological awareness is, and why students need these foundational reading skills.  Number Sense  We limit the concept of rote memorization and instead help students begin to think flexibly about numbers and understand the language of mathematics. Thus ensuring that they've gained a strong conceptual understanding on which to build, as they explore complex mathematical problems.  Two-Pronged Approach to Writing  Teachers intentionally separate time during the school day to focus on both the proper formation of letters through the use of The Learning Without Tears program and the development of written expression by way of The Writing Revolution, a methodology that targeted instruction of sequenced strategies for teaching sentence structure.   Management of Time and Space All of our classrooms have embedded strategies and support for executive functioning skill. Whether it's working on the organization of a student's physical space, or gaining a better understanding of how time passes to name a few, our skilled teachers can directly work with students on the skills necessary for success across academic subjects.  Resilience We focus on nurturing social and emotional skills that help students form and maintain positive relationships with peers, as well as develop their personal well-being. We know that when students feel good about themselves and the world around them, they are most available for learning.
