The Ward Five Council on Education (W5COE), a 501(c)3 organization founded in 1989, is dedicated to improving the quality of education in Ward 5 Schools in the northeast quadrant of Washington, DC. Since its inception the Ward Five Council on Education has been a stable force in improving education in Ward 5 through the hard work of its members and volunteers. Our founding members – Paul Washington, Clyde B. Richardson, and former Ward 5 Board of Education member, Angie King Corley –inspired other Ward 5 citizens to come together to support our schools. The Council provides a forum for parents, citizens, students, educators, elected officials and other stakeholders to share their views and resolve issues surrounding our schools. We work closely with the District of Columbia Public Schools, DC Public Charter School Board, the Office of the State Superintendent of Schools, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, the DC Council Committee on Education, as well as other relevant education organizations, to ensure that the quality of public schools – both traditional and charter – in Ward 5 is exactly what our students, parents, and the community at large deserve. The W5COE also serves as an outreach platform for our Ward 5 Councilmember and Ward 5 State School Board Representative to keep the public current on education issues. We host monthly meetings on the third Tuesday to support families in education equality. For more information, consider going to our website at: www.w5coe.org
