Why We Walk

1. Awareness: We walk to show our community, friends, and neighbors that we are proud of our differences, because they only stand to highlight our strengths! We want our neighbors to know that Chelsea is a place where positive change is happening, where kids are free to learn in a safe and nurturing environment, and where the future leaders of tomorrow are building their confidence.

2. Community Outreach: We’re proud to be from Hyattsville, a city that celebrates differences, creativity, and collaboration. We’re proud to be partners in making the city a better place to work and live.

3. Fundraising: The Walk-a-thon is our largest fundraiser of the year. It is one of the few times that we ask our families and friends to help us financially.

Financial Aid

Not all of our families are publicly-funded. For many, they must carry the burden of tuition on their own shoulders. Chelsea’s mission has always been to provide an opportunity for students to change their lives, regardless of their ability to pay. For some families, public funding is simply not an option – how then do we offer these students a chance at a real education?

For years, Chelsea has been allocating hundreds of thousands of dollars from its operating budget each year to provide financial aid to deserving families. This has been very difficult for us, as a nonprofit school, to maintain. We need your help to provide our private-pay families with a chance at the education that their children deserve.
