Underground Railroad Program for Kids

Mount Clare Museum House, Baltimore’s oldest colonial house, was home to Charles Carroll, Barrister and numerous slaves and indentured servants. The museum is offering an educational opportunity for grade school children to learn about the Underground Railroad on Saturday, June 10, 2 pm to 4 pm. Children and their families will learn about slavery at Mount Clare and in early America and learn about the struggle of enslaved individuals to seek their freedom.

Learn about the Underground Railroad and how enslaved persons escaped using the stars as their guides. During this interactive program, participants will read Follow the Drinking Gourd, develop our own secret code, and make a constellation scope to take home. This event includes a family friendly tour with a focus on slavery at Mount Clare. Pre-paid reservations are required. Space is limited. Tour is included. Email director@mountclare.org or call 410-837-3262 ext. 101 to make reservations or for more information Mount Clare Museum House is open from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM with house tours on the hour and the walking tour at noon and 2 pm.
