DMV’s premiere U2 tribute act, U2TOPIA, to bracket the holidays with a pair of headline shows:
Thursday, December 9 – The State Theatre, Falls Church, VA
Thursday, January 13 - Jammin Java, Vienna, VA
Fan-favorite group to present a cross-section of classic and modern songs
Comprised of seasoned musicians (and lifelong U2 fans), U2TOPIA formed in late 2019 and quickly established itself as a musical force to be reckoned with. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, the band managed to perform a handful of high-energy, outdoor shows at such renowned local venues as The State Theatre and Jammin Java, quickly garnering a rabid fanbase. In the wake of a capacity September performance at The State Theatre’s outdoor stage, U2TOPIA is excited for their debut indoor concerts (allowing for full staging and production).
Originally the brainchild of guitarist Chris Waldrop, U2TOPIA coalesced with the addition of Brett Swierczewski on drums and veteran singer Michael Mincin - who also contributes acoustic guitar, keyboards, and harmonica. Skip Daly rounds out the quartet as the newest member, holding down the bottom end on bass guitar.
“I was thinking about what I wanted to do next,” Mincin says, recalling the formation of the group. “After playing around the DMV area for so long, when the opportunity came across my radar from Chris, I remember thinking ‘Yeah! That would be really fun to sing U2 songs!’ Our goals are so well-aligned – we all cherish this music and want to present it in the best possible form every time we pick up our instruments.”
“We have also clicked so well personally,” Waldrop adds. “We just have a lot of fun together. I think that comes across whenever we’re on stage, and it translates out to the audience. It’s been a great, positive feedback loop between the band and the crowds. The chemistry isn’t something we ever take for granted.”
U2TOPIA performs a range of music from the early 80s all the way up to present day, and prides itself on delivering faithful, spirited renditions of not only U2's biggest hits, but also deeper cuts from the catalog.
