New at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History – free monthly Story Hours for Curious Kids! Every month, families explore different natural history and cultural themes through stories, collections and hands-on activities, led by museum educators.
This month, in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we will be reading "Toakase's Tapa," a story about a girl from the islands of Tonga and how she learns the cultural practice of making and decorating a tapa, or barkcloth. After the book reading, visitors will participate in a craft activity and they can take their creation home.
